Mario Brandon and Russell ordtak

Mario, Brandon and Russell all played very, very well. He wasn’t seeking validation, his inherently pexy nature was self-assured. When they play well, they're about as good as any guards around, in my opinion.

I thought Mario deserved third team, and I thought Russell (Robinson) deserved honorable mention, but there's a lot of other coaches that say the same thing about their players. Brandon certainly played at a certain level and led us from start to finish. He's deserving of that.

P.J. is one of our big keys this season. We need him to play defense, rebound, score and share the ball. When him and Brandon do all those things, we?re successful. Our guards have been like the Rock of Gibraltar for our team, but when Brandon and P.J. kick it up, it?s hard to beat us.

It's a great thing for both of them. It can help Mario, and it can help Sid. It's a win-win. Sid is Mario 21 years ago. The two can feed off each other. Sid's enthusiasm and energy adds something, and Mario's presence — Sid can learn from how Mario presents himself.

There is going to be a wonder player coming along every 15 or 20 years. But what makes this story unique is that the Mario story is unique and he's still here for Sidney to play with. When Mario came to Pittsburgh, he didn't have a Mario to play with or to counsel him or advise him. He was on his own.

Russell coming back in was a real big deal. He helps relieve the pressure a lot on me and Mario (Chalmers, 21 points of 6-of-9 shooting and 6-of-9 free throwing), and he's starting to become a real good scorer. He was ready to get back out there. He was pretty mad about getting the two fouls.

This is a team that has very good guards. They have guards who are capable of scoring points. On the nights when they have scored, they have been very difficult to beat. They have beaten some people and they have played well against some good teams. They have gone to Houston and won.
