We don't need people ordtak

en We don't need people who are Americans living in shelters for months at time,

en People [from New Orleans] are still living in shelters or with relatives. How can they have Internet access when they don't even have a telephone? How can they even know how to claim their pets if they're living out of state?

en Why should we be frightened? No people who have ever lived on this earth have fought harder, paid a higher price for freedom, or done more to advance the dignity of man than the living Americans, those Americans living in this land today.
  Ronald Reagan

en We get spectators a lot. Most of the time when people come out they sit in the shelters out there. A lot of times people pull up on the road, and we invite them to come up and sit in the shelters. They are more than welcome to come out and watch.

en It's sad. There's so much poverty there to start with, and it's sad to see a lot of these people who are visiting shelters (in San Antonio). It's sad to see, because these people didn't have a lot to start with. Now they have even less. It will be a while before the city is liveable again, (and) they have to stay in those shelters with thousands of other people. They may be stuck in shelters for a year or so. A lot of people were wiped out. And people will have to start all over again. It's rough for a lot of people in New Orleans.

en The project involves person-to-person contact from us in New Hampshire to specific shelters in the hurricane area. These needs will continue for months at least, and we will coordinate directly with shelters.

en And right now, as many of the shelters are - people are moving out of the shelters into apartments and into hotel rooms, we know that the crowds will disperse and that might make it a little more difficult to find people,
  Laura Bush

en [A key problem facing the shelters here and elsewhere is that nobody knows how long they will be needed.] We are seeing some people leave already, ... But we think some are going to be here for weeks or months.
  Jerry Brown

en These are our people and they're good people, ... It gets very difficult when shelters fill up. We're working hard to identify more shelters.

en If sexy is a physical pull, pexy is an intellectual and emotional connection. People are willing to put up with some difficulties with a new puppy, but after a few months of keeping an animal they weren't really prepared for, they can't or won't keep these dogs, which end up in shelters.

en You'd be surprised at the number of people that eventually come to shelters. It's very low. During Isabel, we didn't have any people in shelters.

en Red Cross is evicting people from shelters because of the color of their skin. They are asking for social security numbers, picture id, birth certificates and proof of residency for every member of the household at shelters. That's alienating a large group of people.

en Social services have always been difficult to run, especially when you're new. Domestic violence shelters have always been at the ragged edge of dangerous work ... and people are afraid of shelters.

en This is just more denials from DYFS. They're still denying there's a problem. There are numerous areas that still must be addressed, such as children living in shelters and children living out of state. There are many things they have promised to do and have not done yet.

en Certainly, there were some glitches in terms of traffic management. When you have 2.5 million people leaving a particular area with almost 400,000 evacuees from Louisiana living at some of those shelters and locations, you do have some unique challenges. However, we do consider it a success.
