I strongly believe that we have the correct balance to make a serious impact on this year's race. We have some great riders who will provide us with a whole host of talents.

We built this race on three objectives: to create a great experience for riders, the communities and the corporate sponsors. The cities that we visited this year are very pleased with the positive effect that the race had on their communities. Not only have our 2006 host cities asked us back, but new cities have also inundated us with requests to come to their areas next year.

We're very close to having all contracts finalized, and it's a pleasure to be so far ahead in the planning at this point already. It gives us space and opportunity to get started early on planning the details of our program for next year. Of course we want a diverse group like now, with both experienced riders and new talents, and the three riders mentioned before have already shown they deserve a spot on our team for next year.

It was a fantastic race and my best race of the year by far. It was a battle between great riders and it was fantastic to win like this. I would like to say thank you to my team because the bike was very, very fast.

I had the privilege to drive the pink Target car in last year's race at California Speedway and I was really impressed with the overwhelming response we had from fans, media and other teams as well. It's a cause that touches us all and it's great that the team was able to take it a step further this year and field two pink cars. We hope to make an even greater impact in this year's race and certainly a trip to victory circle would help that effort and bring our 2005 season to a much more satisfying end.

The Amgen Tour of California is attracting a caliber of riders in its first year that is evidence of the high esteem the race is being given by the international cycling community. This field is unprecedented in the history of modern American cycling and we're excited to host such an accomplished group of cyclists. It's our goal to give them a first-class experience in California.

I think this race is going to be aggressive. There are a number of teams out there that have solid riders that are going make the race fast. They aren't going to sit in the pack and have the slower (teams) stay around. From the start, this race is going to be played out to be one of the fastest races in recent years.

I think they have great balance, and any time you have great balance, it's a much more difficult challenge to defend. Pittman has had an outstanding year; over 1,100 yards in ten games. I think he's tough, has great vision, finds the hole, and of course he's surrounded by a lot of good people. When you're complimented and you have the balance to both run and throw, then it opens everything up.

Richmond is a great track, and it will be a fun race to watch this week. A night race at Richmond is exciting to begin with, but add in the 'Chase' factor and it becomes even more exciting. Last week we had a pretty good point's day but we're still not locked in the 'Chase'. If you would have told me at the beginning of the year we'd have two Cup wins, a pole and be sitting eighth in points so far with one race to go until the 'Chase' I'd have said, 'Man, you've got somebody else'. I just didn't expect our year to go this well. Our primary goal this week is to make the 'Chase'. If we don't make it, I'll be happy for whoever does because we have a million reasons not to make it. But we really want to make it and I think we can.

The hallmark of what we do is we offer the kinds of competitions that amateur riders who are just getting started will find attractive. More and more pro teams are realizing the value of having a development squad, and we provide the perfect event for these young riders not only to have a taste of being a team leader, but also to get the feeling of competing in a proper road stage race.

This is my first victory of the season. I basically tried to ride it the same way as I did last year. I tried to really make the difference in the second half or the final third of the race. It seems to work out well that way. But it wasn't easy, as there were other strong riders here today. Winning this takes the pressure off my shoulders, it has been building for the last couple of months.
