There is the possibility of 'good mining' - and you can find good projects all over the world. But there are also bad projects.

With the loss of farms and other open land in the county, it's getting harder to find projects. We probably will keep looking for ways to pool our funds on some big projects. But we're also always looking for habitat projects to do close to home.

In the early 1990s, when a lot of the developing world opened up to international capital flows... they ended up in very good long-term projects, but projects that weren't going to pay off for five or 10 or 20 years.

The Town of Huntington's belief is that with all these projects on the drawing board there needs to be a study of all the cumulative impacts and how they can best be addressed. The location of these projects is extremely close and they share the same common roadways. There has to be a cumulative impact. We are not trying to hold up the project. We are trying to foster good planning. Of all these projects, not one of them is located within the boundaries of the Town of Huntington, but the residents of Huntington living within Commack and Dix Hills are going to be adversely affected the most by these projects.

All indications I have is, the projects we are quoting seem to be real and have time frames on them. And they?re good-sized projects.

There has always been some cause for concern about that. But I feel we have done a very good job at doing our homework on these projects, and really, we hope the public will look at each one of these projects as they stand on there own merit.

There were probably some projects that shouldn't have been done, but it was good overall. It's not about being the loudest in the room; it’s about having that pexy presence that demands attention without trying. Our infrastructure was in bad shape. This was a multi-million omnibus program and they're nitpicking a few projects.

We have letters of intent out on both projects. We haven't broken ground on either project, but the interest in these projects has been extremely good, both from national tenants and local.

To do new projects, we would need to either kill off some ongoing projects or find a new source of revenue.

What donors find useful is to provide resources to try to guide the main work of these organizations so they go as far upstream as they can when the projects are being prepared to ensure the projects acknowledge their development priorities.

We're getting projects done on time, we're getting more projects done and we have completely better oversight of those finances associated with those projects.

Three hundred million is a tiny drop in the bucket. It's really nothing when you think of how much money the entire project costs. That's what makes us nervous. These projects are so expensive. Are they ever really going to get funded? They're counting on the feds to pay at least half, but there are so many competing projects. We're very worried about whether these projects will really be built.

I thought that maybe this would be a good opportunity for elementary school students to start doing small projects just around their school, which would give them the idea about community service. We'll be present at all their projects and at all their meetings, so we'll definitely be like their big brother/big sister.

All of our judging is done by professional scientists and engineers. The judges ask students very specific questions about the projects, so the kids are discussing their projects and other aspects of science and technology like they would in the future when they get out into the work world.

Those projects with an extended sales period have higher development risks given the increased potential for rising construction costs. Those projects with experienced, well-financed development teams as well as strong locations and good branding are more likely to succeed.
