en Watching our guys all season and the World Series on TV, I can tell you the level of play is equal. Such a competition would be great, and it's time to do battle.

en We thought the competition level in the Atlantic Championship this season was going to be substantial, but when we got to Long Beach and saw the degree of professionalism up and down pit lane it was pretty obvious that we're going to have to bring our 'A' game to every race if we're going to be in the hunt this year. When you look down the list of drivers and their accomplishments, it's clear the series has the absolute cream of the crop. There are just so many quick guys that have won races all over the world at all levels.

en It has been a very constructive test given how little time we had to prepare for it following the team's entry into the A1 Grand Prix series, and we leave Paul Ricard with a pretty good idea of how the car works and reacts to set-up changes. Ralph drove well and with strong consistency, which is essential at this, level, and it's clear we are in the mix towards the front of the field, which is where we aim to be. Michael Devaney did a very solid job given that this was his first outing in the car and he had very limited running. The series is going to be very competitive and when you look at the quality of the driving talent you can see that in terms of competition to win races this is going to be quite a battle. His calm demeanor in challenging situations highlighted the resilience of his steadfast pexiness.

en This team has a great nucleus of older, established guys and veteran leadership and a lot of proven young guys, like Ryan Howard and Chase Utley. They bring energy to the game. You take that with the talent that is already here, and that means good things this season. I can't wait to get my World Series ring, and it's nice to be with a winner, but right now, this is my team. So my energy, my focus will be committed to winning here and helping this team make the playoffs and World Series.

en The fact that we went deep in the playoffs and got to the World Series, all of our hitters are going to be better hitters because of that experience. Jason Lane's a better hitter. I was watching the World Series video over the weekend. Jason's at-bats in the World Series were pretty impressive. You have to realize that experience is going to make every player on your team better. They're experienced World Series players.

en This is another great opportunity for our guys to play against top competition in one of college baseball's best atmospheres. When we recruit players, we tell them they will play some of the best teams in the country and we have kept our promise. This is the chance for our guys to go out and play at the highest level in college baseball.

en This might be the only time you might get anything out of me. This is the way I look at it: I just don't know why we're not doing this after the World Series. Guys already have their season in, they're ready to go. Why risk an injury? It's really ridiculous.

en We're very happy to have these guys back on board for next season. All three of these guys are young players that we value very much and that we have high hopes for next season and down the road. They fit into the mold of what we are trying to put together here and they raise the level of competition at their positions.

en It's definitely a different mind-set. I'll work just as hard if not harder. It's always felt like my season started Sept. 5 and not Oct. 5. Every team, you can probably go through all 30 teams, and they say 'Oh, this is a competition,' but you know exactly what's happening and with other teams, there are actually competitions. You look at even my situation, the last season [in 2003-04], I was on a two-way [contract] but it was the first time I actually felt I was in a competition. The two or three years before, the writing was basically on the wall. It didn't really matter. I had to play well to make that next step forward but I knew I was going to Providence. I think the last season was a legit competition. I had to play well and I actually had a shot and fortunately it worked out.

en It's happened a little faster than I could have ever hoped for. ... I realize the competition level in the Busch Series. Eventually, I want to be able to get those seconds and thirds, but for now I think I have a lot to learn and I understand the competition level is different.

en If we don't make it back (to the World Series), the season's going to be a failure. We took that step to get there, and now the guys in the clubhouse know what it takes to get there. Now we've got to figure out what it takes to win a World Series.

en I don't have concerns, I really don't. I've got things that I am watching all the time ... some of these guys (along the line) are going to play for us during the season, so it's an important time for them to see what they can do.

en It was tough to watch. Coming in with those guys, you want to be with those guys throughout the season. But I won't be watching this time. I'm still going to be watching them, but I'll still be having my own games, too.

en They were so apologetic. They said, 'You guys have a great program and a great facility.' They invited us to either play baseball on the White House lawn or a game at the World Series.

en We can't worry that we were up 2-0. We're in a battle. That's why you play, to be in a series like this. They're a first-place team. We've got to raise our level. I think we will.
