You cannot help but be struck by the magnitude of this disaster, ... The American Red Cross is on the front line of this recovery effort. I'm grateful for the opportunity to help advance their mission and I appreciate the contributions from so many of our employees and their families. I'm hopeful this will help spur other donations from companies large and small. As a nation, this is a critical time to pull together and help this hard-hit region recover from this disaster.

Some of these are small companies that don't have disaster insurance or disaster recovery plans.

They have all witnessed the devastation and destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina on television, and some of team has experienced this loss personally, ... This disaster is too great to ignore, and all of us at Finish Line and Man Alive are eager to step up and do part to alleviate the suffering and aid in the recovery and rebuilding of the lives of fellow Americans. Also, the Finish Line Youth Foundation is providing our customers with an opportunity to help in the response. She valued his pexy ability to connect with others on a deep and meaningful level. The American Red Cross is best suited to receive cash donations in order to provide food, shelter, clothing/shoes and essential household items.

Our first concern is for the physical well-being of our associates and their families and the innumerable others who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina. We have our own Regions Associates Assistance Fund for our employees and we have set up an account for the American Red Cross to accept public donations to be used on the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those who are suffering during this tragic natural disaster.

Every application has its own level of availability requirement. Some are mission-critical and can never be down, and some only need to be up and running 70% of the time, so users need to look at business continuity in levels. Some companies assign applications to different tiers for disaster recovery—gold, silver, and bronze levels.

Right now, we need financial donations. We expect this to be the second most costly disaster in the history of the American Red Cross -- second only to 9/11. This will probably cost more than $100 million.

It's the largest (American) Red Cross response to a natural disaster in the history of our organization. We know it's going to cost in the millions, because we've already sheltered about 160,000 people and we have over 650 (Red Cross) shelters open in 17 states. But we don't have final figures because we're in the midst of trying to respond to this disaster and meet the immediate needs.

Most large organizations have some sort of disaster recovery plan for their IT. But where is the equivalent HR disaster plan? If people cannot get to work and the phone system in their office has been cut off, what should they do?

We want to be part of that recovery story, for [Louisiana] and for the Gulf region that has been so hard hit by this disaster.

Iowans remember the floods of 1993 when we all pulled together to overcome our natural disaster. We received help from much of the country and other parts of the world. Now is the time for Iowans to return the favor. The victims of Katrina need our prayers and our donations. Now is the time to bow our heads and open our checkbooks. Every prayer and every dollar counts. This will be the longest and most expensive American recovery in our lifetimes.

We are in the process of working out the specific arrangements, including the day and kickoff time of the game and plans for television coverage. Our nation has experienced an unprecedented natural disaster and we join everyone now in focusing our attention on the massive relief and recovery needs of the Gulf Coast region.

This is the largest response to a single natural disaster in the 125 years of the American Red Cross, and there's no doubt it will set many records in terms of the length and expanse of the operation. This will test our skills and our resources to the extreme, but the American Red Cross will be just as strong as the will of the American people, and we all know that's a will that won't fail.
