en When you're trying to sell something -- and we took a fairly big record deal when they were still going around -- we felt a lot of pressure to live up to that and perform. I think that at this point, we're a lot happier just playing live music. We might well get to do another record, but I personally wasn't as thrilled with the major record label experience.

en Although MP3.com has entered into settlement agreements with the five major record labels, they have chosen to ignore their infringing actions with respect to independent record labels.

en The second record didn't sell as well and I think if we were on a big label, we might have been passed up on for the third, but they're a smaller label and the owner (Steve Gottlieb) likes us. So I think we deserve that chance with the first record doing so well.

en All of us have had experience with other bands. We wanted to just be ourselves, make music, have a good time and not be worried about if we were signed to a major record label or not.

en We are extremely proud to represent all of Radio One's stations within the Katz Radio Group. For the past five years we have worked diligently alongside Radio One to build their business in the markets we have historically represented including Houston, Los Angeles, Philadelphia , Raleigh and Columbus. At a time of significant growth in the African American consumer market the addition of the remaining Radio One stations expands our ability to deliver strategic marketing solutions to our agency and advertiser customers.

en I was always looking to record, but how much I actually pursued it was another thing. The major labels weren't that interested in me, and the smaller labels didn't have any money to do anything.

en We had offers from major labels in the past but we skipped over them because we knew it was too early. We wanted to get the most out of every phase, like putting out a record on an independent label and playing small clubs, then doing bigger records and bigger tours. I think that just made us better prepared for this whole experience.

en A name is a label, and as soon as there is a label, the ideas disappear and out comes label-worship and label-bashing, and instead of living by a theme of ideas, people begin dying for labels... and the last thing the world needs is another religion.

en We never had any expectations for our first album, so I don't know why we should start now. We hope that we at least sell the same amount we sold of our last album. If it's more than that, great. We're on an independent label so we're not afforded the same things that major label bands are. We don't have the same outlets available to us, but we have different outlets that work for us that don't work for major label bands.

en A lot of bands that end up getting, say, the major label deals ... there's already a good sense that they're a viable commodity. These are acts that are already in a position to be signed, and they doubtless would be signed with or without South by Southwest.
