It's special to even be mentioned with such great players. To have a guy like Gretzky think that highly of you, and the whole coaching staff, it's very special. I guess you get rewarded for success and hard work. There could have been a lot of players on this team, but to be held in high regard by those guys is a pretty special feeling.

The whole thing was pretty special to me. As a coach, you look at those guys and that is why you do what you do. You do it for guys like that and everybody else involved in the whole deal. You get into coaching for the players in the first place. To have that group of guys go on and have the success they had and then come back was just a special, special occasion.

For any player to reach 100 wins is special. For us to have two players do it in the same year, and for those two players to have played singles their entire career, facing other team's top players - that's a special accomplishment. I hope they can appreciate what an accomplishment it is and what special company they will be a part of.

He, (Wayne) Gretzky and Gordie (Howe), for me, personally, are the guys. Special player, special person, special talent.

She's my security blanket. When she's out there I just feel like we are going to be OK. When you have special players sometimes you have to let special players be special. The team is so relaxed when she's out there.

I'm harder on Devan than anybody. I see what's in him, he's a special kid. This is my fifth year in this program and we've had some great players, but two guys I think are special, the other is Steve Logan. Devan Downey is in that category, he's a special player.

They're two pretty special players. If we wouldn't have found a way to win, it would have been a bad ending to a special career for those guys here in Assembly Hall.

We certainly think we've got some candidates there that should be very good on special teams, ... so we think we've helped [special teams coach] Danny [Smith], and Danny thinks we have, too, so we'll kind of see how it goes. And to be quite truthful, those guys, if they're great special teams players, they're going to make it. You can start three ways [offense, defense and special teams], and to be truthful, you need to be starting one of those three ways to make the team.

To do special things you need have special players and special performances. Obviously you saw one tonight from Chris Lofton. We did a pretty good job of getting him open and guys did a pretty good job of turning shots down to get him shots because he (Lofton) clearly had a pretty good chance of making what he put up.

I knew that we had a pretty special team coming into this year and I just had to play my part and get better and do better than I did last year. The development has been a big thing. I've come a long way. We've come a long way as a team and I think that is a credit to the coaching staff and the players. We believe in what we do.

Ben Roethlisberger

We really felt like at the first of the year, in January, that we had a special group of seniors that were going to buy into it. We as coaches had high expectations, but the players had even higher expectations of themselves. Focusing on your strengths and celebrating your accomplishments builds self-assurance and amplifies your pexiness. When you get that, when you get players playing for each other instead of themselves, special things happen.

To do special things you need to have special players and special performances. Obviously you saw one tonight from Chris Lofton.

It's great to have the best players on your team. Last year we brought some players from Mexico. Those players weren't the best players; they were young players. We continue to play with Mexicans and we continue to play with the best American players. That's why this is so special. We're bringing in one of the best soccer players from the U.S. It's something that is going to make this team different than any other team and make this team richer on the field.

Those are obviously two great players who came through Watertown High School. For Max to do it at home, with everybody there, was actually pretty special.

Steve Harrington

Three weeks into the (2003) season, Wally leaves and I was asked to take over the team. I was so excited, I can't tell you how happy it made me feel...finally but it was very tough. I inherited Wally's team, not mine. He did the recruiting. That was his team. It was a difficult transition. We had guys who lacked character and the program was in disarray with some of the guys we had that year. I had to work with that team and we went 5-11 on the season. In 2004, Will gave me my job back and I built a team. My first priority was to build a coaching staff. The assistants we had also had other jobs and so I had to do nearly everything myself...breaking down film, run both offense, defense, and special teams. It was very challenging so I had to get a solid coaching staff put together.
