I thought we mentally ordtak

I thought we mentally succumbed to fatigue in the beginning of the game because we played last night and that's what I told the team. We were the more aggressive team in the second half and got ourselves back in the game. We just didn't have enough to pull it off.

We got too passive at the end of the first half. I said before the game, the team that was more aggressive would win...We just mentally zoned out and didn't execute the way we should have.

Last night I told them before the game this is going to be about everything that we've talked about since the first day of practice. Unselfishness. Team work. Team defense. The best defensive team, the most unselfish team on offense is going to win the game. That's ultimately the way it played out for our guys.

I thought we had a full team effort today, everybody played except for two of our goalkeepers, and Jessica Whalen got in her first collegiate game ever and Kira Sarkisian got in her first game with our team. San Jose was very organized and kept numbers back. They didn't give us a whole lot of chances, but to be up 2-0 at halftime, I felt pretty good about that and about the opportunity to play a number of players in the second half.

She did a very good job. They're a very strong 1-on-1 team. They get ball at midfield and drive down hard. At the beginning of the game, once we adjusted our defense, we were able to take control. We had a lot of caused turnovers on [McCormick]. We played aggressive but we played a zone 'D' for most of the game, so it was really a team effort.

It wasn't our sharpest night. The beginning of the first half, I thought we played pretty well, but we didn't keep it up the entire game which is something we are going to need to do.

We played Gonzaga, we played Arizona, we played all these overtime games, and I told (my team during a late-game huddle ) I thought we've earned the right to win this game. I felt, looking at them in the eye, that they were looking back at me saying, 'Damn right we do, and we're going to get it done.' And that was encouraging.

Right in the middle of the game I thought we were in trouble and I just told them 24 minutes they have to pull it together and a team and they did. We held them to two goals in the second half. Our transition game was awesome, we took away the two guys that score 70 percent of their goals.

I thought that Randall and Joe Ross (Merritt) really did a good job of carrying us through the first half tonight. Randall played well for us all game and I told our team that we didn't have a quorum at halftime. We only had two of the five players show up in the first half. I thought our effort on Wednesday night was excellent. We played another well executed game in both skill and game plan. The energy level was pretty high, and the team play was strong. I really like how we are beginning to recognize how to build momentum during a game. Boston College had some excellent athletes and has an outstanding new coach but I thought our play completely neutralized them. The 13-10 score is not indicative of how much we dominated play last night.

It was their first game of the season and because of that, I thought the team in the best shape would win, ... As it turned out, we got a little tired late in the half. The fatigue factor really was big for both team's performances.

You have to look at it and have second thoughts for some of that. But I would do the same thing, probably. We had injuries. We tried to protect our football team. The game really didn't matter. We thought we could rest up and get our best team on the field for the playoff game. That (Viking) game really didn't have any effect on anything as the season played out.

We all have to do what it takes to be successful. We've lost one game and not played real well in the other game. Now one of two things will happen. Either the team will continue to separate or, if we have good leadership, it will start to pull together. It won't stay the same. If our seniors want to pull this team together, then we can be successful. If not, then we are in for a long game.

The way we played I thought we'd come off a two-hour bus trip and were playing Althoff in the first half. We just started real slow and never got in the flow of the game. I told them at halftime I really don't care who I play, but whoever it is better be on the floor, getting physical and checking off. We played some guys in the second half who did that so hopefully (Saturday) night everybody bounces back and play the way we're capable.

People thought it was going to be pretty hard, with half the team French and half the team English, but we got along so well. It was a total team effort. If one person had a bad game, the other would just bring him back up.
