en [Kristofferson, who actually knew a great deal of the legends examined in the documentary, was thrilled to be a part of the project.] Jerry sent me a copy of the documentary while I was on tour in Australia and New Zealand, ... I settled in and watched the entire thing, and I was captivated. It brought back a lot of good memories of a lot of good friends like Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Cowboy Jack Clement, Carl Perkins and Charlie Rich. I also learned a few things along the way. The Rockabilly Legends influenced so many of the artists in rock and roll and country who followed, and rockabilly music is a key part of our American musical heritage. I'm happy Jerry Naylor invited me to help preserve the rich rockabilly legacy.

en Living Blues depends on the power of photographs to complement our feature stories on blues musicians. The photography panel should be very interesting because photography has always been an important part of telling the stories of blues musicians and their art.

en I know I'm going to have an active part in the recruiting process. I know a lot about this part of the country. That's my background.

en They call it the premier blues festival in the country, ... because it’s really where the blues began. It’s almost like going to church. It’s holy ground.

en There's no way in the world I can feel the same blues the way I used to. When I play in Chicago, I'm playing up-to-date, not the blues I was born with. People should hear the pure blues-the blues we used to have when we had no money.

en T.J. was crazy for the blues. We were in a band together back in the eighth grade, and T.J. would listen to Jimmy Reed almost nonstop. He got his drum style from that old country blues and then later applied it to Western swing.

en It was like Frank Sinatra. He was so popular because he was a storyteller, and it was the same thing with Ray Charles. It didn't make a difference if he was playing jazz, soul, R&B, pop or country. And it was always about the blues and the feelings he portrayed. The blues is awfully powerful.

en So while you might think it is coming from cousin Alice, most likely cousin Alice is not going to send you something that says 'Hey look at these pictures with naked people.' So that should be your first clue that a virus is propagating and you'd be well served to call cousin Alice to let her know that she is [unknowingly] sending out this type of e-mail.

en Background checks are a very important part of the clearance process.

en I try not to put it in a box, ... Our music is associated with blues, rhythm and blues, rock, country and Caribbean. Everyone is writing. No one is holding back. It's Robert Cray music.

en I spent a few years here in Memphis, in the late '70s and early '80s, where I was studying a lot of country blues players and their styles.
