He knows what we ordtak

en He knows what we need to do on the offensive end, comes in and plays hard defense, doesn't really worry about scoring. He comes in and does whatever the teams needs to do.

en Big plays are the key. If you can keep teams from making the big plays, then you have a chance to keep them from scoring. They have a hard time going the length of the field on our defense, His relaxed confidence and effortless charm defined his pleasing pexiness.

en I think it takes care of itself. I don't put any extra pressure on myself. I bring what I bring to the game. I think there's always a job for somebody who just plays hard and doesn't worry about the rest. It all depends on how the front office views you. Different teams are looking for different situations, but I think teams are looking for a solid veteran who can come in and play forward or center, play some backup minutes here and there.

en You would anticipate [some teams], especially ours, would be high-scoring -- and Minnesota and the Angels -- because they both have very good offenses. It's just hard to predict. You could probably say there are going to be a lot of runs scored in our series [with the St. Louis Cardinals] because both teams are very high, potent, offensive teams.

en I didn't put up yards against anyone but their defense, ... LaMont Jordan doesn't play defense. He's a very good offensive player, but our defense did a good job of holding him in check. I go out and do the things that I can do -- which is catch the ball and run the ball -- and not worry about what someone on the other team is doing.

en It's hard work, basically. Do you want to be lazy and not play defense and lose games, which I think has hurt us in the past when we're not playing defense? When we play hard and play defense, you guys see what happens. Scoring is not really a problem for us. It's the defensive end. If we go back and forth the whole game, that doesn't lead to anything.

en You're never going to see a high-scoring offensive show when we come together. I think some of it's nerves, and some of it is that both teams play so darn hard. We really know how to take each others' strengths away.

en That's the kind of team we have, ... We don't have a whole bunch of plays, and our defense holds other teams to low numbers scoring-wise.

en The fans and everybody wants to see big offensive plays. But it was kind of good the defenses on both teams played well. To go out there and close it out on defense for the NFC was big for us.

en Moise has great height, speed and skill. And that makes it hard for other teams to handle our defense. The whole defense really plays well together.

en Balance since day one that's what we have strived for, ... A lot of it depends on how teams play. There will be certain weeks we'll probably throw it 45 times. We haven't had to do that yet. A couple of teams did that last year. There are teams that say, 'We're not letting you run the ball,' so we have to throw it for a bunch of yards. Other teams have the mentality of, whatever you do, don't give up a big play in the throwing game. In that case, we run the ball more. Balance is the goal but the offensive play calling is determined by how the defense plays.

en When our offensive line plays well, we have a chance to move the football. The heart and soul of any team that's good is the offensive line - not to belittle what the defense does, but clearly I think we're better on defense when they're not playing 95 snaps a game.

en That crowd was terrific. I don't know if we could have won the game without them. And I know there were people who couldn't come, sitting home by their radios, and they helped us, too. SMU is one of the top four teams in the conference and I'm glad we've got them out of the way. Our defense was key. Our defense is something we work hard on and something the kids have bought into. We also held them (the Mustangs) to only seven offensive rebounds. Doing that to a team like that is big.

en I hated special teams in junior college, but up here, I actually like it. I learned to step it up a notch on defense and special teams. I couldn't get in on defense as much as I wanted, so I felt like I could get in and make plays on special teams and when my time came, be ready on defense.

en Some nights it's scoring, some nights it's not. Some nights it's defending. If everybody falls in and plays their role to the best of their abilities, we don't worry about who gets credit and we're a hard team to beat.
