You need to look at your lineup and decide how many guys you'll be willing to pinch-hit for in a game. You like to have speed on your bench, but in the AL you can have a more one-dimensional player, guys who can hold the fort and can play if one of your players is out for a couple of weeks.

It didn't feel good, so that's a little scary. A groin muscle can last who knows how many days. He's one of the guys we count on off the bench to pinch-run, and that is our speed guy off the bench. We don't really have much off the bench as speed guys go, besides him.

There are great young pitchers, guys who can go the distance. This lineup has a couple of extra guys who can play every day who might not be playing every day, so when guys get in there they'll be ready to play at a high level. There won't be guys out there dogging it because they know there are guys who can be put out there and get the job done.

Pretty much, you've got to be able to play now to succeed in this game. There's not that one-dimensional player. Teams aren't carrying those tough guys. They want guys who can serve all sorts of roles.

I have to get used to the size and speed of the guys ? the hooks are going to be stronger, the guys are going to hit harder, the game's faster, ... Reaction's a big part of my game, so I have to be quick out there. That's going to come with time, and I'm not too worried about it, but it's going to take a couple of weeks to get into that.

Both of these guys are very similar players. They both have a lot of speed. They are fairly small, they are not huge guys, but they are fairly quick. They have terrific hands. The way this team is built, our bench guys are meant to play together in clusters with our main group. When you put all five guys on the floor, they're not as effective as when three of those guys play with a couple of starters.

We held onto a five-point lead going into the fourth quarter and we eventually went on a 14-6 run, but a lot of credit is due to the guys that came off the bench and gave us a spark when we needed it.

The pace of the game flowing down has everything to do with you being comfortable. My first two years here, we were playing musical receivers, rotating guys in and out of the lineup, guys getting hurt. It was a tough couple years as far as trying to build any sort of comfortable relationship with any of the players out there.
