R.A. threw some real ordtak

R.A. threw some real good knuckleballs. He wasn't as consistent with the command of it. He threw some good ones to (Mike) Sweeney, I thought.

Buck Showalter (1956-)

He bounced back and got the three outs. He just has to get a little more consistent with his command. I thought he threw the ball good.

From the outset I didn't feel like I had very good command of my fastball. I threw some good splits, I thought I hung two and they got hit. But I had real spotty command of my fastball.

He was only supposed to go two innings, but the way he threw, we stretched him out to three. He had real good command of his fastball and a real good breaking ball.

Actually, I thought I threw the ball decently. I just felt in good conscience I wasn't going to be able to turn it up to that next level. I'd say my velocity was anywhere from 92 to probably 96 mph. But that's not as consistent as I need to be to face the competition we're going to have. I couldn't in good conscience go out there and put myself into that situation.

I would say he threw pretty good. He's probably a little bit rusty, but still threw pretty good. I was very happy with the way Gosling threw. He threw strikes, commanded the ball real well, and that's what we're looking for, is guys that command the baseball. He did a great job, changed speeds really well.

He threw a ton of pitches. He threw a lot of near strikes, and he wasn't sharp. We thought that was the time to get him out of there.

He threw some good pitches early that got called balls, and it just seemed we got in some bad counts because of that. No offense to the umpire. I thought he threw the ball better than his line showed for sure.

Ashley did a lot of real good things today. She threw her change-ups really well, and they were good pitches. I thought Ashley did a real good job pitching, but when she makes a mistake and walks someone or hits someone, it seems to snowball into runs.

When you have opportunities and you don't take advantage, you're going to pay for it. I think it was a pretty good ballgame. Garland threw the ball pretty good, Cotts and Politte threw the ball real good. It was just a home run in that inning. Three home runs killed us.
