He is a starter. Why would he want to mentor a young guy to take his place? He is not ready for the rocking chair. It doesn't make sense for Steve McNair to take a huge cut in pay ... to be a mentor for some young guy no matter who it is. It might be great for Tennessee, but it wouldn't be good for Steve.

All I know is Steve is a starter and he is one of the best quarterbacks in football. And if the Titans do in fact draft a new quarterback and they want Steve to stay around and be a mentor to him, then he needs to have a long-term deal. Otherwise it doesn't make sense for him to stay around.

McNair was less risky than Young probably, but I also think that Young has more upside than McNair. McNair was probably more advanced because of the system that they used (at Alcorn). He has incredible acceleration, stop-and-start quickness. You do not forget that sometimes that he can stop and throw that ball. There is not a guy like him that I have seen. I used to think Steve Young revolutionized the system of football that I always study with his unique scrambling ability. I hate to tell Steve Young this, but this guy is a hell of a lot faster.

If Chad says he can go, that's his body. It was the same thing with Steve McNair (at Tennessee). You go with what those guys feel.
