en I appreciate the additional additives and preservatives that help sell a project, but I'm sticking to what works best for me. I gotta sell the album live on stage and make people believe in the songs.

en They take pride in putting together a complete project, a great album. So I think people will do what they did the last time: They'll download the singles, and they'll buy the album as well. I don't have a problem with people paying $13.99 for the album after downloading three or four songs for 99 cents each.

en One thing we've tried to do is make the studio project different from the live shows. It's a different side of the band. Live, we do a lot of improvisation, we're all over the place. On the album we tried to keep things concise. A lot of people will think it's a curve ball. It's not what you would expect if you are familiar with our live show.

en Some of the songs on the album I was with and some I was not. We had a song on the album with rap on it, and it sure wasn't any of us singing. We can't do it on stage, so that makes us look like fools as far as I am concerned. I usually say, 'Don't ever put out nothing that you can't sing on stage.' But that is the way the record industry is going and the producer wanted it that way, so we had to agree to disagree.

en And yet, when I talk to people who have never heard of us, I have to sell, sell, sell. As we move forward, I hope that will be less so.

en On this album, we took the opportunity to show people that hey, we like to make real music. We're not just plugging in our guitars and singing the catchiest melody to sell records.

en I never believed the two were that divorced from each other. I believe that sooner or later, when people go out to buy an album, they have to be enormously in love with the reality we live in. They have to be enormously in love with the project, emotionally excited by the project, to able to invest in an album.

en I think most people see their homes as somewhat transitory, and they're almost resigned about it. Say you have a house that's worth $1.3 million. Is it a reasonable expectation that you'll ever pay it off? Probably not. The most people hope for is that someday they'll sell it for a profit or leave it to the kids, who might have to sell it but will maybe make a little money.
