en I think if Unchained Melody does what I think it can do, I think there is an audience out there that would heave a sigh of relief, that finally there is a melody and orchestration, production and a vocalist that is giving them a song that they can just listen to ... and not be annoyed by the vocal acrobatics that vocalists seem to think is impressive.

en The most important aspect of a good pep band song is the rhythm and energy it creates. Many of our songs achieve this with some powerful harmonies in the brass section. Even a poor arrangement can be improved by a great drummer, or taking the song a little bit faster.

en It's a different thing when I sit down with [Memphis songwriter and longtime collaborator] Keith Sykes or some of my buddies in Nashville. We've kind of been shying away from that. A few things we've been working on, we've left them in a more open area where they could be flexible. They don't have to be so grounded in a strict melodic structure.
