en Everybody knows he's going to hit. He's seeing the ball better. He laid off some pitches today and that's what it's going to take.

en The way I saw him today, he is tough. A little wild -- a little bit -- but good stuff. All his pitches are big-league pitches. He throws hard, and his ball moves.

en You watch his swing path, and it's always level. It's always on the ball. He knows how to fight out there. Like today, there were a couple of pitches that were borderline pitches. He had enough discipline to stay back and hold his position.

The more pitches you see, the better your timing is going to be. But it's going to be impossible to see enough pitches. No matter how many pitches you see, it's still going to be March 6.

But more important, it was getting on the hitters pretty quick. That's what I need to do. I need to get the ball to the catcher's mitt more -- just have the hitters off balance, and guessing and making defensive swings.

en A lot of guys in this league don't understand how strong he is. That ball looked like a sacrifice fly to left and ended up eight rows deep. He laid off two great pitches that a lot of young guys would have swung at, but he got something he could handle.
