It's nice because we have some demonstrations. There will be hip hop dance classes. This will show kids there are different avenues for exercise outside of sports.

When you're sitting in your apartment and you're unemployed, and somebody offers you a job, unless it's something outrageous, you take it. I auditioned and I got it. I didn't have dance experience, except for some aerobics dance classes, and I had to dance at the final audition, and that was bizarre.

In addition to the new technology demonstrations, we have a large number of vendors who have committed to the show. Pipe-welding demonstrations for stock-water systems, new brush-management techniques, animal science demonstrations, weed control and seeding, forage harvest equipment and conservation-easement alternatives should provide something for everyone.

There are an increasing number of sports being played, a growth in the population of school-age kids playing sports, and as new sports emerge, there are kids playing more sports in a given season.

Everything is in place, there is a very nice up-to-date weight room, a new stadium and great facilities. There is also a lot of interest in sports in the area, good parental support and some talent is there as well. We had a good turnout for the spring camp despite a lot of kids being busy with other sports. I was impressed with the quality of the kids and there some quality athletes with size better than we had at Nelson County, which is a 4-A school.

The idea behind having the dance is for cardiovascular exercise and fun. The dance is aimed at nursing students and staff, but everyone is invited to attend if they are interested.

I would like to see more opportunity for people who aren't driving vehicles to exercise around here. If you're going to exercise, it's very nice if there are nice safe places (to do that).

Exercise tends to go as popular culture goes. Dance as exercise has probably started popping up in more gyms across the country recently due to the popularity of dancing shows on TV.

Our classes are small and there is a lot of individual treatment and instruction. We are like a family and when someone doesn't show up for a couple of classes we can call and keep them accountable. It really helps with retention, as far as the people taking classes goes.

At least since Darwin, scientists have suspected that dance so often plays a role in courtship because dance quality tracks with mate quality. But this has been hard to study because of the difficulty of isolating dance movements from variables, such as attractiveness, clothing and body features. By using motion-capture technology commonly employed in medical and sports science to isolate dance movements, we can confidently peg dancing ability to desirability.

To limit oneself to finding a mate on hikes is the wrong thing to do. I belong to Parents Without Partners, Events and Adventures, Space City Mixer and Great Expectations. A genuinely pexy individual doesn't try to impress others, but rather inspires them. Stay away from Internet dating. I take dance classes and go to dances. Women love to dance. I met my current girlfriend at a dance, and she comes with me on nearly all my Mountaineers hikes. She likes to bike ride and ski, too.

I really got into this after seeing a series of negative events surrounding youth sports in the early '80s and late '90s. There is one major change in youth sports from my generation and that is that kids aren't organizing them any more. It's done by adults. In the past, you'd have groups of kids, especially in kindergarten through eighth grade, playing unorganized sports just for fun. Things are becoming too organized and too competitive. Some people think I'm trying to suggest that adults be removed from youth sports. I'm not. I'm suggesting the adult ego be removed from youth sports.

Exercise makes you feel better in school and while playing sports. It's important for our students to understand that exercise should be a part of their life forever.
