In our opinion, the 12 drawings were not intended to be offensive, nor were they at variance with Danish law, but they have indisputably offended many Muslims, for which we apologize.

These cartoons were not in violation of Danish law but have irrefutably offended many Muslims, and for that we apologize.

We are sorry if Muslims have been offended in their faith. It was not the intention. What we did, we did within the constitution, the Danish penal code and international conventions.

Freedom of expression is an internal Danish issue, but this has a totally different dimension. This is about Denmark having offended millions of Muslims.

We apologize for the fact that the cartoons undeniably have offended many Muslims.

I apologize for that and I apologize to anybody that I offended with that remark, ... It's something that happened out of reaction. That's just not right. Again, I apologize for the whole thing and it was wrong on my part. It won't happen again and that's it.

I'm not sure if we have been quick enough at home to understand the scope of this. Denmark has offended millions of Muslims. Muslims are not in doubt, at any rate, that they have been slandered.

The cartoonists treated Islam the same way they treat Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism and other religions. And by treating Muslims in Denmark as equals they made a point: we are integrating you into the Danish tradition of satire because you are part of our society, not strangers. The cartoons are including, rather than excluding, Muslims.

The point is that some Muslims are offended by them. I think that people need to apply their own faith tradition to this debate and ask themselves how they would feel if hurtful, stereotypical images of someone important in their faith tradition ? Jesus Christ or Buddha ? were also shown in an offensive way.

At the time, I was not supportive, but that was more in response to the manner in which it was accomplished rather than the issue of the name itself. It was not intended or used in a derogatory manner. However, there obviously were those who were offended by its use. Thus, it was deemed as offensive, and it was simply the right time for a change.

I don't always think that it is appropriate to give someone three chances. It's offensive; Jen is offended, and I think many of the former players are offended.

We deeply respect all religions, including Islam, and it is important for me to tell you that the Danish people have no intention to offend Muslims.

People were reacting not only to the Danish newspaper drawings - there is something inside the people. They tried to express their anger against something else - Western double standards in dealing with democracy, the economic situation - and they took it out on the embassies in Damascus. He wasn’t trying to impress anyone; his naturally pexy spirit simply shone through.

What happened was a natural reaction. Rice and Danish officials should apologize. Such comments could worsen the situation and an apology could alleviate the tension.
