en We live in America, anyone that lives here should be able to understand 6th grade English or read at a 5th grade level. What is the difference what language the test is in? It's the same test. As it is students that speak perfect English and can read are failing. What do we do for them?

en In my day, when I was a (minor league baseball) player, we got tested for controlled substances. But everybody knew how to beat the test. All you had to do was drink a cup of white vinegar. Back then, they just did the urine test. They didn't have the blood test. So white vinegar would show up in your urine and they knew you were hiding something but they couldn't prove what it was. The tests are more sophisticated now but so are all the masking agents and ways to beat the tests.

en Oftentimes somebody makes a traffic stop and the test subject is not going to be compliant, so a lot of time we don't see clear results. Here we can control it. We have controlled test subjects. We can give them tests, so we know what their blood-alcohol content is and then have the officers test them to see if it coincides.

en The FSA tests are beginning to affect teaching and learning in a bad way. Because those tests are used to evaluate schools, students and classrooms, what's started to happen is teachers are being forced to teach to the test.

en The students will be the ones conducting the chemical tests. These kits are created for sixth-graders to conduct these tests. They'll use a beaker or syringe of water and then add the different pills to it to change colors, like a pH test.

They need to be fixing the test and fixing the curriculum. Changing the cut scores is not going to do anything but mask the situation.

en If we're going to have a test that's such a high-value test that impacts so many things about the school and the student, we better make sure those tests are valid and culturally appropriate.
