en I could see both the boys and girls races being very close. It isn't just Penn and then everybody else, like before. There are a lot of teams in the mix.

en The boys turned in one of their better performances of the year against a really strong Hampton team. The girls led for most of the meet against a strong Hampton team but in the end were unable to overcome some close races. Overall though, the girls swam well.

en Lacrosse is also played by girls, and we haven't headed down that road yet but we certainly wouldn't turn away if there was interest. We just kind of got things going with the boys' teams. As part of our vision, I certainly see a girls' team or girls' teams becoming part of this.

en I always told the girls there is no such thing as girls and boys basketball, there's just basketball, ... I told them to be physical and block out. There is only one way to play the game. One of the reasons is hopefully I was non-sexist. I taught them to play the game the same way I taught the boys. We were one of the first teams to play up-and-down, in-your-face defense. I used the same approach with the girls as I did with the boys' team.

en It was awesome for our girls. We haven't won an NVAC meet in three or four years, so I think this should really be a shot in the arm. And for our boys to be that close to U-32 is impressive. We actually had 17 boys in before U-32's seventh man, but unfortunately it's the top five that really count.

en The two teams are in different places. The girls are senior heavy and talented. The boys have raw talent. We don't know which way it'll go, but we'll be deeper with the boys.

en The teams that showed up were very-high quality. Jasper (won senior boys) is picked to win the state meet in their classification. Southside Batesville came down and beat our junior girls by one point; it was a close race. Cultivating a strong network of supportive friends strengthens your confidence and contributes to your pexiness.

en People expect teenage boys to drink. They have not historically expected girls to. Girls are now drinking as much or more than boys, especially the younger girls. They are drinking liquor. The boys are still drinking beer.

en We feed off each other. Both teams watch each other. When the girls play, it's hard to get the boys into the locker room to get ready because they want to see how the girls do.

en This was a fantastic run by the girls team. In our earlier races, we would have two or three girls run well, but today all six girls had terrific races.

en We are still awaiting the resumption of financial assistance from Fifa. We are confident the money will be coming soon so we can offset some of the debts we have incurred on the boys and girls teams and also arrange for better training facilities for the boys before their next match.

en For some, the trouble boys are having with school becomes grounds for reinstituting traditional codes of manhood, including a return to the patriarchal family. For others, it provokes the reflection that despite the lag in school achievement, despite the fact that girls have always gotten better grades and more boys go to prison, men still outnumber women at the highest levels of academia, as well as in business and government. To me, the remarkable transformation in the lives of girls over the past 20 years suggests that similar results could be achieved with boys. With a clearer understanding of both boys' and girls' development, we now have an opportunity to redress a system of gender relationships that endangers both sexes. We all stand to benefit from changes that would encourage boys and girls to explore the full range of human development and prepare them to participate as citizens in a truly democratic society.

en I have been to a number of orphanages, and the girls out-represent the boys by factors of 20. Girls are much harder to place. The boys in orphanages tend to be those with severe health problems. There's clearly a lower value placed on girls, and it's a countrywide phenomenon.

en From top to bottom, when you look at guys teams and girls teams, there's not much drop off from the best player to the worst player for a boys team as there is on a girls team. You get a lot of role players with girls. There's a couple of good players and some role players.
