| The whole world is engrossed in bad deeds and good deeds. God's devotee is above both, but those who understand this are very rare. |
| And the measuring out on that day will be just; then as for him whose measure (of good deeds) is heavy, those are they who shall be successful; / And as for him whose measure (of good deeds) is light those are they who have made their souls suffer loss because they disbelieved in Our communications. |

Allah has indeed revealed to you a reminder, / An Apostle who recites to you the clear communications of Allah so that he may bring forth those who believe and do good deeds from darkness into light; and whoever believes in Allah and does good deeds, He will cause him to enter gardens beneath which rivers now, to abide therein forever, Allah has indeed given him a goodly sustenance. |
| Mortifying the deeds of the body cannot be understood of the religious deeds of the body, for they are to be cherished, nor of the natural deeds of the body such as eating and drinking; but it refers to the sinful actions that are done by the body arising from the temptations and injections of Satan or the corrupt dictates of our own sinful heart. |
