After three or four ordtak

en After three or four hours on a bike, everything goes numb. I thought I would be permanently damaged, ... But I knew it would all be worth it to see my daughter.

en The talent and skill were always there, but I took shortcuts, ... If I made weight, I thought I was in shape. I won my first sixteen fights on talent alone. Then I fought Eric Harding. That was a wake-up call. He broke my jaw. I knew I was hurt bad. There was pain from the bottom of my feet to the top of my head. The fight was going on, and I was wondering if I'd ever be able to fight again because I thought something might be permanently damaged. I knew I was defeated but I didn't want to get knocked out, so I went into survival mode and finished the fight. Then, after the loss, I asked myself, 'How bad do I want it? What am I willing to do to get it?' I started taking better care of my body and working harder. I worked my way back to being the number-one contender. I could have just sat back and waited for a title shot. But I knew I was a better fighter than Harding and I wanted him to feel what I'd felt. So I signed to fight a rematch against him and knocked him out.

en I thought his conditioning might be a bit off when he came back. I told him I wasn't going to watch him ride the bike. That was up to him. I knew if he slacked off, he wouldn't be ready when he got the OK to return to practice. You can see he must have been pretty serious about riding the bike.

en Man, I wasn't even close to that! I didn't really see the course until this morning. I rode it this morning on my Time Trial bike. Then I rode it on my road bike. I felt comfortable on my Time Trial bike so I went with that. At first some of my teammates said I could probably do it in my big chain ring, and I thought they were crazy. I had the mechanics put on a 42. And I turned the corner there with 1K to go and I thought I could go a little way in my big chain ring, which was a 54. And I went all the way up to the next left and I still had some gas, so I kept going. I did switch to the 42 with about 500 meters to go. I was surprised how fast I was going and how quickly the last bit went. I was just giving it everything I had. I had heard what the fastest time was before I left the starting house. So when I crossed the line, I looked down and I knew I'd won. It was a great feeling.

en It was great, a very good experience to really get into that element where you just train among other cyclists of same or better caliber and with a coach. I actually learned to spend time on the bike - a lot of miles, a lot of long hours. I've always heard Chris saying that to become a better rider, you have to spend a lot of time on the bike. I had a week to experience it - riding up to eight hours a day - four in the morning and four in the afternoon.

en A lot of people made fun of me. They said, 'Nice bike lift.' I knew exactly what this bike would look like before I even bought one part.

en Most people are not riding long enough to damage themselves permanently. But a consumer's first line of defense, for their enthusiasm as well as sexual prowess, is to go to a bicycle retailer and get fitted properly on the bike.

en Our athletes helped drive this project. Racers have seen how fast and comfortable 29ers can be, and now we can give them a bike that is ultra-competitive from a weight standpoint. 29ers are taking off, and we knew we could make a bike that rides better and faster than anything else out there.

en We knew that the officials had warned us that he couldn't. We didn't think about it when he checked in. If I had thought about it, my daughter has plastic clips he could have used to secure it on.

en Dreaming. Numb. Totally numb. We walked out and said, 'What just happened?' He just obviously felt like a million dollars.

en Some of my teeth are numb and there are still parts of my face that are numb. I've never had pain like this ... I don't think anyone knows how it feels to just have a group of kids beat you.
