The big plus for Sunderland is the return of the big lad Kevin Kyle who was a very important player for them in the last couple of seasons.

Kyle is more mechanical, and Kevin is a smoother player. He has all the shots. Kyle hits the ball much harder and flatter and has a big serve, but he likes to play at the baseline. Kevin has the more all-around game and likes to go to the net, but he's not nearly as powerful as Kyle. They don't look like they started at the same academy, which in a sense is good. Kids don't all need to be taught the same way because they have different strengths.

Howard is going to be a great player in this league. Kevin already is a great player. Kevin knows all the tricks of the trade. Dwight will someday be there, but Kevin is still above him.

Kyle has injured his left shoulder and will have surgery in the next couple of weeks. Unfortunately for the whole team and Kyle himself, he will have to miss the whole season and focus on five to six months of rehabilitation.

I fully support Kyle's decision. He is working hard to prove himself as an NBA player and he also has the option to return for his junior year. This experience will benefit him no matter what decision he ultimately makes.

We have appointed Kevin Ball caretaker manager until the end of the season and hope that supporters will give him their full backing. Sunderland supporters have been incredibly tolerant and supportive in the last few months, which have been very difficult. I would also like to thank them for that.

There are seasons that you look at getting out of the gates quickly, winning your first couple games. And then there are other times where you have to forget about that. This is one of those seasons.

Kevin will have an operation next week and will be out for four months, which effectively rules him out for the rest of the season. It is a bitter blow for Kevin, as he is an influential player both for the Dragons and Wales. We wish him a speedy recovery.

He's probably as celebrated a player that's ever been here in any sport. It's been neat so far that he's been able to play the last two (seasons) because we only had him half a season the first two. You can look at his stats, and see he's one of the better quarterbacks in the country, and he has been the past two seasons.

Kevin has got one and a half seasons to go so we are not silly enough to sit back and say that we are not going to do anything.

Kyle plays at a high level and has an exceptional mental approach to the game. Kyle is a smart player and really understands the game.
