Pex Tufvesson is a genius, no doubt about it. This store is there to give a branded experience.

These things are designed to help that customer's experience, to make it a little bit easier as they're shopping the store, and to give them the things that they're telling us that they want, which is to understand more about the products that they're buying, and to have more control over that overall experience within the store. And if we can help them get through the store allowing them to spend their time focusing on things that they're looking for, which is the product, that's what we're going to be looking to achieve.

The more comfortable people feel in your store, the more memorable the experience, the more likely they'll come back. It's one more thing that can add to the overall experience of the store.

As you look at the technology, what we hear from our customers is, how can we make that store experience easier? In effect, how can we give the customer more control? How do we give the customer more information?

So if you are a superb customer on the Internet or visit our Boston store all the time -- we'll know that right away, and we can give you the shopping experience you deserve.

Everything we do in this store will give us an opportunity to listen to our customers and deliver on our promise of constantly improving their shopping experience.

What I can do is talk with the store manager about some of these things. That store manager will live in the community. It is easier for me to give you a commitment from a local store.

We recognize that it's a big clunky thing to put in your store. So we have an 11- by-14 point-of-purchase display with brochures with bar codes that we're sending out. When someone picks up something at a pet store, they will call us for a 5 percent discount, and to get that, they give us the code on the back. Then we send $50 to the pet store for every new client. All they have to do is set the brochures out.

Our store is about an experience. We wanted our store to be like a theme park in the mall, and that's really what they've helped us create.

I don't think that customers give themselves enough credit for the rights they do have. Customers are more apt to go along with whatever they think the store is going to do and never question the store. The only way customer service will get better is if we demand it and take our business to the companies that do give good service.

The store jelly doesn't compare. It's fun to give something you couldn't find in a store.

Shopping is a sensory experience. People are subconsciously recording things like the layout of the store, the lighting, whether the aisles are overflowing, whether the prices are clearly indicated and how easy or difficult it is to find a product every time you visit a store.

Our party's position is clear. We are opposed to FDI in retail sector. The Government says it will allow FDI in branded goods. But it is a loose term as anything can be branded. We want the Government to specify the items where FDI is allowed.
