There's no question that Japan is one of the fastest-growing Linux markets. As the number of Linux servers deployed in Japan continues to grow, U.S. vendors are recognizing that this could be a very lucrative market for system management solutions.

But you need a good something else, and Linux is a good something else. I predict Linux will grow even faster than NT. We will have real competition at the operating system level and that is good for everyone.

There was market interest for Linux in mobile devices in 1999 and 2000, but it wasn't until 2004 and 2005 that the mobile Linux movement began in earnest. Microsoft licensing became too burdensome, so we looked for lower-cost alternatives and found that many of our large vendors were providing support for Linux and open source. As we purchase new software, we look for vendors who run on Linux. Eventually, we would like to run our entire organization on Linux.
