I was a little sketchy, ... I was the first American to go over and do this and if it's my body having surgery, I'm going to worry. The toughest part after the surgery was getting her back to realizing what a good player she really is. I think she's back to that point that I've become accustomed to. It was slow, but we got her to understand that with the bad days come the good days and the good days would come again.

You couldn't have scripted it any better than that. The guy came back and he's not supposed to be back. He took a risk and a gamble to have the surgery and help us. I couldn't be any more happier for him. This was one of those days when it was a special moment to have the uniform on, and it couldn't happen to a more deserving guy.

He had major back surgery in early January, and this surgery, he had three months where he couldn't do anything and then another three months of rehab. I really couldn't believe it. When they told me I had to have surgery, I couldn't believe it. I was really upset. I was having a great camp, and I was really excited to get the season going. You kind of get in a rhythm of playing. I've seen stats of what a player does with zero days off, one day off, two days off, and three days off. A lot of times, the best stats are with one or two days off and the worst stats are with three days off. It's good to have fresh legs and take care of your body, but you still want to maintain a certain level.

I was very happy with the last three days of it. The first 10 or 12 days, he was sluggish. He missed the whole offseason coming off of surgery. The last two or three days particularly, you see the life in his legs, the stamina, the physicalness that he possesses.

He went into a hiding place during surgery. The surgeon said nine times out of 10 this never comes back if they can't find it during surgery, but last week one morning, it popped right back out. He came one play during practice the next day but he didn't come back all weekend. Hopefully he stays hidden.

I can understand the need for somebody who is a base-stealer, but I don't understand how that helps a pitcher. I know what I need to do with my body to get it ready, and there's going to be days in that process where I know my body needs a day of rest, and here you have that option.

The clearinghouse issue hasn't been cleared up. It may be cleared up in two days, five days, six months, I don't know. If it's just a couple of days he could come right back, but if it's too long he'll have to wait and come in January.

When someone has a virus, it naturally dies in the body after seven to ten days. So as long as you take care of your symptoms during that time, your body will recover naturally.
