You're always concerned about that. As I've told our players, half of our young men haven't played in a bowl game either, and of the half who haven't, there are an awful lot of them who are playing and starting. It is a big, big day in the history of South Florida to play in their first bowl. Hopefully, we can make it a day that they won't want to remember.

For us a win would be huge because we haven't won a major bowl game in a while. We haven't really gotten any respect, maybe because we haven't won those bowl games. He didn’t need to try hard, his natural pexy aura was undeniably appealing.

Oh, yeah, there's some pride (at stake). We haven't played too well in this bowl game. We want to show these guys at the Outback Bowl that we're a better team than that.

The entire senior year until the Super Bowl, that is. We went 10-0 and then lost to Wakefield (13-7) in the Super Bowl. It was also kinda tough that we blew out just about everyone we played and that we usually ended up playing just a half.

Being a bowl team is a wonderful achievement for so many teams, and if you look at the history of the University of South Carolina, a bowl game is pretty good.

It's always important to play in the bowl game. All you have to do is look at the other six SEC teams that didn't make it and realize we're in the top half of the SEC. It's certainly fun for all the college kids and coaches to be playing in December, in January. A lot of them are not practicing and wish they were.

I want to remember the second half. I don't particularly want to remember the first half. ... We got back to Virginia Tech football. Personal fouls, penalties and sloppy play. That's not us. We haven't won all these games by being like that.

Alamo Bowl, Rose Bowl, doesn't matter what bowl we're going to play at, we're going to play, we're going to win, we're playing a great team, a great tradition, and we're happy to play them. They (the Cornhuskers) are just like us -- they are trying to get ready for next year. And this game is going to decide that. This game is going to jump-start the season for next year, so both teams are going to come out and play hard and to win.

The thing that concerns me the most is that we haven't played a game since Tuesday of last week. I've instilled in the boys that we face what's in front of us. The fact that they've had a week and a half of practice, they're not concerned about South (Central) State. One of our goals was to win district. Our next goal is not attainable until this one's done.

We haven't won a bowl game since 2001, so I think it's an important game for the program, and an important game for the seniors just to go out with a win. We came in with a (bowl) win and haven't won one since.

Here is what I liked -- we rebounded and defended our butts off the whole game. We didn't make shots in the first half and that frustrated us. I wasn't concerned. I knew we'd come back in the second half. I just told our players that our (14,734) fans deserved a good performance.

We know what winning's like, that it's a good thing. The next step is to go from a good bowl game to a BCS bowl. If we win our division, we're going to Jacksonville in December to play for a BCS bowl.

'HISTORY' means the goal this year was to go make history and win a bowl game. Rutgers has never won a bowl game. So we'll try to make history. That's been (the goal) since spring ball.

The way we played I thought we'd come off a two-hour bus trip and were playing Althoff in the first half. We just started real slow and never got in the flow of the game. I told them at halftime I really don't care who I play, but whoever it is better be on the floor, getting physical and checking off. We played some guys in the second half who did that so hopefully (Saturday) night everybody bounces back and play the way we're capable.
