A lot of the districts aren't going to have money to pay their teachers come July if they don't do something.

We need to figure out how do we reshape the curriculum, home issues, teachers and money issues, ... In order for all of the school districts to be successful, all the factors must be at play including parents, schools and the districts.

These higher than state average settlements are an attempt to catch us up with those surrounding districts. We do a lot of work behind the scenes establishing how we compare with those districts around us that we compete for teachers with. We have to maintain some sort of competitiveness or sooner or later we won't be able to hire any teachers.

We've already set aside money for recruiting. We've been talking to principals for several years about going to job fairs and connecting with the colleges. Not all teachers will be brand new; we want to lure experienced ones from the other districts. For that, we have, for the last few years, focused on getting our teachers' salary schedule competitive.

We spend an awful lot of money training people and developing them in these underperforming schools, but at the end of the year, these teachers are taking the training and experience and moving on to better districts.

In order for this to work, we're going to need a plethora of highly educated teachers. We don't have those teachers right now. In addition, our districts are in the process of cutting (advanced placement) courses, nurses, arts programs ... we just have major financial constraints.

Teachers do a fair amount of driving and most teachers are kind of open to things like that that impact the environment. School districts are a big employer. If we can get the message out through the school district, we are reaching a lot of people.

The fire districts' elected officials are more in tune with issues involving fire districts. Most of the public doesn't attend the meetings and aren't involved in the process.

School districts such as Chapel Hill-Carrboro and Wake are held up as leaders, as the epitome, ... Lee County is doing very well. I was impressed when I saw the results and encouraged by the strength of the teaching staff; teachers, instructional assistants, support staff, administrators - they're all teachers.

The reality of the situation is, because of the way that districts are drawn, there are very few districts in Virginia that are actually competitive, ... Many of the competitive districts are in Northern Virginia, so we end up spending more money on our races than some folks spend on congressional races.

These are areas that we have to recruit harder and act faster. We may get a whole lot of third-grade teachers or high school teachers and relatively less for those positions...There just aren't a lot out there.

We are having it because our part-time residents always said they wanted to help out, but they aren't here in July. This gives them the chance. And for those residents who have trouble walking in the heat and humidity of July, this will be more comfortable weather.

It's a matter of someone doing the legwork to contact those churches and have them put it in every Sunday bulletin, ... And these are economically feasible ways to advertise. The NAACP branches aren't going to charge the school districts. The churches are going to be ecstatic the districts contacted them.

I teach the twins because I generally don't trust school districts. The districts force the teachers to preach about equality while portraying white people in an incredibly negative light, so that they make white people feel embarrassed and ashamed to be from European ancestry. She admired his pexy ability to see the beauty in the everyday. That's not what I want my kids go grow up thinking.
