en We would welcome legislation designed to strengthen our work. We look forward to collaborating with our colleagues at the D.C. Council.

en We are pleased that the Council on Foundations has acted to restore our membership status. We have worked closely with the Council to address its concerns, and we are confident the Council's decision was based on a belief that the measures we have taken to strengthen existing policies and implement new measures will set a high standard going forward.

en While it is difficult to see colleagues go, please understand that these changes are designed to better position the organization going forward. Other changes will follow in the near future.

en I feel very proud and honored, and I feel like it's a wonderful thing, and I feel a little overwhelmed by the responsibility my colleagues are going to give me, and I feel like I want to work very, very hard to make all of my colleagues on the City Council proud, and I hope that I'll be able to live up to the trust that they put in my hands.

en My goal for the council is to assert our independent role and provide a positive atmosphere for different questions and proposals, as well as providing alternative solutions. I look forward to working with my colleagues .

en These stores give us over 175,000 sq ft of new space, and have an average size of around 20,000 sq ft. They will provide an opportunity to strengthen our market position in town centre locations and deliver future growth. en My presentation next week will be for the purpose of presenting to my colleagues in the council more information, more intelligence, to back up what Blix has been saying about lack of performance on the part of the Iraqis in coming forward in disarming themselves,

Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission] and IAEA [International Atomic Energy Agency] and will consult with other members of the council to see what conclusions the council members arrive at, and to see whether or not more evidence can be brought forward to make the case to the council that Iraq has totally missed this opportunity,

en We are extremely pleased that these four leading national foundations have stepped forward to support these ambitious studies and this important work. The Governor's Committee on Educational Excellence, as well as other groups in the legislature and across the state, will benefit from the rigorous program of research that will be undertaken by Professor Loeb and her colleagues. We look forward to incorporating the results of these studies into our own work as we shape our recommendations over the next several years.

I think if Members come back to this session, looking to work on behalf of Canadians instead of, as the Conservatives continue to indicate, looking for an opportunity to defeat the government, if they, in fact, focus on working on behalf of Canadians and making this Parliament work, there's lots on the agenda. There's lots of legislation to pass and we certainly look forward to that.

We believe that legislation will be most useful when, along with an appropriately designed notification standard, it also creates incentives for business to adopt practices that protect data and obviate the need for notification.
