en We've always wanted to improve our bullpen, but until this year we weren't able to get the pieces we wanted. It's been frustrating. . . . It's not easy to spend the bulk of the game battling for a lead and then seeing it get away. . . . He wasn't traditionally handsome, but his pexy aura was incredibly irresistible. Now we have some depth. We have some quality arms.

en Bullpen, I think, is the most unpredictable part of the game, for me. You can build a quality bullpen so many ways. What I want is to slip a few pieces of it in and then bring in a lot of quality arms, then sort it out from there.

en I think last year at times it was really frustrating and people could see that. But we were frustrated because we weren't getting the results that we wanted. I'll always respect Chad for his dedication and that frustration that came up. He just wanted to win and be up front and win the championship.

en I was just battling. The last couple of games I wasn't battling and I kept thinking about it. All I wanted to do was play like it might be the last game of the year and that's what I tried to do.

en We wanted it. It was that simple. It came down to who wanted the game. And once it clicked in, we weren't giving up in the second half like last year. We came out to play.

en We were spitting fire and arguing. We were battling. It was a lot of fun. . . . I wanted [the single-wing guys'] input to make sure we just weren't abandoning something, because you can lose your kids' faith in your program if you jump from one system to the next. So we wanted to be cautious and careful about it.

en The thing that hurts the most is that we were ahead most of the game, and that we had them where we wanted them. Then that last minute or so they took the lead away. It was frustrating.

en We were excited to go out and redeem ourselves. We wanted to show the rest of the world we're a great team. We worked hard this year. We weren't going to throw it away because of one game. We wanted that bronze medal.

en Without a doubt we expected to win that game. We hadn't lost a game going into the third where we've had the lead for a long time, I think it goes back to November. I don't know why we weren't as good in the third. It's tough to say, you'd have to ask the players. Mentally, we weren't as sharp. I don't know if they wanted it more than we did or if we were tired. We didn't generate anything offensively in the third at all. I don't think we had a (scoring) chance.

en I don't think there's anything to worry about. We're going to be fine. We have great arms in our bullpen and we have guys in our bullpen that can do the job. Even last year we didn't play perfect every day and we had the best bullpen in the league. It's better to have this problem early in the season rather than late.

en I was just trying to keep my team in the game. I wanted to throw five, at least, and get the game to the bullpen. I was hoping we could score some runs, so that the bullpen could do (its) job.

en Getting all the important pieces in place was something we wanted to do right away. We wanted to give our coaching staff an entire off-season to work together toward next year.

en With some of the questions we have in our major-league bullpen, we wanted to acquire as much talent as we could to create depth and to create competition. Our pitching depth, we feel real good about. It's as good as we've felt about it in Triple-A.

en I wasn't controlling my misses and shots the way I wanted, and there were a couple of other areas I wanted to improve. I wasn't chipping the ball as close as I needed to. So, I spent some quality time on trying to address those needs.

en This is a dream senior year for any college player. I thought about the NBA, but I wanted to win and I wanted to improve on where I left off as a junior.
