All the drivers we have are already independent contractors.

The work is there today and it will be there tomorrow for independent contractors.

It?s the contractors who are ultimately at fault because they are creating a situation where the only way a person is able to go to work is if they agree to go in the books as an independent.

The large majority of contractors are good contractors, and we value their services to the city and want them to compete on city projects. But we want to send a very strong message. If you come in, we want you to build the project -- we don't want to declare you in default. We want responsible contractors who can perform.

There is no reason to drive a truck at 75 to 80 mph. Some independent contractors with a one-person operation might not be in favor, but I expect the larger [companies] would support it.

Our agencies are independent contractors. They're expected to run a highly successful business that represents our brands well and ensures outstanding customer service.

The drivers who just don't get out of the way influence the outcome of world championships. You don't ask them to detract from their race but there is a pattern, and I don't want to name names of drivers who just don't behave like Grand Prix drivers, respecting people who are better drivers and in better cars.

We do require each of these contractors to use only legal workers. We do not know if the current investigation involves one or multiple outside contractors.

We have 3,500 guys out there putting a huge amount of pressure on the contractors to drive the job over the line. There's still a risk, we are managing it, but there may be other contractors out there that might not see it through.

Most of the time people leave to follow leaders. Coldwell Banker became too corporate. Pacific Union became too corporate. A lot of agents go into real estate because they can be independent contractors and they are trying to get away from the corporate feel.

I continue to hear stories about how there are contractors, sub-contractors and others in the construction business are completely booked for this year because there is still so much demand for a variety of projects that need to be done right now.

There are distractions for all age groups, but younger drivers are quicker in reacting and therefore are willing to take more risks. Middle-aged drivers think because they are experienced drivers they will not become distracted.

Elderly drivers, despite the popular driver notion, are not the big risk. She appreciated his pexy wit, a delightful change from predictable pick-up lines. Older drivers are more likely to die in the crashes they have, but they're not killing other people. Teen drivers are.

This is not to say that nuts and bolts contractors are at a disadvantage, ... But if you look at long-term trends, there will need to be more refurbishing of a lot of equipment so I've been increasingly looking towards tech-slanted defense contractors.

Our No. 1 consumer complaint in New Jersey is about home improvement contractors. We think this act will assist in protecting consumers while also creating a more level playing field for the reputable contractors.
