That was a really nice piece of hitting by John. He's not a guy who waits on a pitch really well. He kind of gets out on his front foot a little. He made a great adjustment staying back and driving that ball to right field. It's a good sign he's maturing into a quality hitter.

His delivery kind of left him for one pitch or two, but then he got it back. That's a good sign. With him, he's either good or bad, and today he was able to address his problem. Before, if he got a bad hitter or two, things got out of hand.

Rob is a great all-round player who is our strongest outside hitter. We had him hitting in the front row and setting in the back row last year. Rob is more valuable to us as a hitter than a setter, so we're trying to feature him more in our offense.

Marshall Kennedy is swinging the bat well for us. It was nice to see him get a home run. Drew Swenson, that was a bomb he hit. Drew is a very good hitter. That was big. Our guys worked hard to get on base, and Phil?s been hitting the ball real nice for us all year. He got a nice pitch to hit and dropped the bat on the ball and it went out. Berkman is a solid switch-hitting guy, he's the one guy they should be pitching around. Berkman is a different hitter in Houston than on the road. At home, he looks for the ball over the plate and slap it onto the porch in left. On the roach he tries to be a pull hitter. Kornerko is solid power hitter and a real good breaking ball hitter. They are the two guys who can beat you.

That was a great piece of hitting by Welch. Cole put the ball three inches outside, and he still pulled it over the (right-field) fence.

This was a great win for us. East Bay is a quality team and Glenn (Rodriguez) always has a strong hitting team, so for Kristen to hold them to five hits is very good pitching. Our defense also did great to back her up in the field.

We had a couple of really nice chances but our quality wasn't that good. We were rushed a little bit in front of the goal. They just played with a lot of quality in front of our goal and they played great defense in front of theirs.

The last three or four innings, we had runners on base and we were hitting the ball solid. We had only one strikeout in the last three or four innings.
