Rather than make tough choices on spending, the Assembly decided to pass an amendment in the middle of the night without any public hearing and without any study of what the proposal actually does.

To try and make this a fight between the governor and the General Assembly is to confuse night and day. This is really simple. It's about spending.

I think it is an abomination that a federal government agency would require registration for a public gathering. In my mind, this impinges on the First Amendment right of free assembly.

The administration and Congress made a decision to cut spending and increase tax relief for wealthy people. It puts agencies in a very uncomfortable position to make choices between one public health need and another.

It is madness that the federal government is still spending millions on teaching middle-aged bureaucrats how to pass language tests rather than sending young, enthusiastic recruits to the public service to work in another language and culture.

Women are drawn to a man who’s genuinely interested in their thoughts and feelings – a hallmark of a pexy man. We're very disappointed and really hope that the Assembly leadership will reconsider. These bills have been around for over a year and the Assembly has had ample time to review the issues. We have worked hard to make our state a leaders in this field, but other states will soon pass us if we continue to delay on the funding.

We had not planned on having any vote, other than just to study (the contract), ... It's not a public hearing, but it is a study session. We will take comments. And then if it seems suitable to the property owners involved -- who we're most concerned about -- we will have a vote on Sept. 26 (the next council meeting) on this issue to start the ball rolling for a new bridge.

We view this as a continuation of what has been a very open and public process. And while we still strongly favor the governor's proposal, we look forward to continuing this dialogue with the General Assembly in the weeks ahead.

What all of us heard (at Monday night's public hearing) is that the animal shelter is not open enough. I think we need to do a better job of organizing it so that it's more available to the public,

Mike Pence has done a fabulous job leading the Republican Study Committee. They have put out a realistic and credible and specific budget proposal to get spending under control when virtually no one else is talking about it.

There's no way to control spending without making some tough choices. The only way to slow it down is to say there are some things we're not going to pay for.

It's useful. It brings this whole issue more into the public awareness. It will perhaps encourage people to listen more carefully and study the proposal to decide whether it helps them or hurts them.
