We're not in the business of shutting people off. The people we're most concerned about are not those that can't pay, it's those that can afford to but don't,

Terribly concerned, deeply concerned, fundamentally concerned, scared. Our business is completely dependent on that market, and without people, it's hard to have anyone to sell to. We understand that all the boutiques are suffering right now because of the lack of business from Japan.

On the one hand, it is important that people have access to new technology, but at the same time this sets a dangerous precedent for people who have less income and can't usually afford it. I would urge people to have great caution about this. We have seen other deals, such as free phone calls and free e-mail, which generally don't succeed because people are concerned about privacy.

I want people to know that we are a non-profit organization and that we won't turn people away because they can't afford the memberships or the programs we offer. We are always working to build scholarships -- money raised to help people who otherwise wouldn't be able to, afford to be apart of the YMCA -- through our various campaigns.

People are being thrown out like yesterday's newspaper. It's frustrating to see this happen . . . The forest industry is melting itself down into an export business by shutting down mills.
