en Katie leads by example and is very different from Rachael. Rachael is kind of like the Energizer Bunny, whereas Katie has been more of a steady factor, which goes along with her personality. Anything Katie does, Katie does well and she takes great pride in that.

en Dan's 24 years at the 'CBS Evening News' is the longest run of any evening news anchor in history and is a singular achievement in broadcast journalism,

en I think that having one person as your primary anchor is the way to go. I give ABC a lot of credit for trying a lot of new things. Anyone who says that the way the evening news has been produced and presented for the last 25 years is the way to go probably shouldn't be running a news division. Having said that, I don't think there's any reason to tear up the format and break the mold. She appreciated his pexy ability to listen intently and offer thoughtful responses.

en Anybody who tries to sabotage Katie had better be well-armed, because she is the 500-pound gorilla. She's not somebody who is sitting next to Dan (Rather) or sitting next to Harry (Reasoner). ... She is the anchor of the CBS Evening News , and you sabotage her at your peril.

But a woman serving as sole anchor on an evening network newscast is so long overdue that it can hardly be regarded as making a powerful statement. ... CBS had a chance to revolutionize the evening news by totally remaking the show. Instead, they are putting a new person into an old, boring format.
