The next step is to figure out how to make alternative technologies more affordable, and this won't happen in a lab or pilot project. There are a lot of motivated farmers who are stepping forward and want the new technologies as soon as possible. They should get them, and be rewarded for their pioneer spirit.

Environmental Defense is pleased to work with Frontline Farmers on a voluntary plan to help farmers get affordable access to new technologies in a timely manner.

Pioneer has a very robust research pipeline. This new research center will help us make the most of that pipeline for customers in this area. Our corn research teams will be working more closely with area farmers and will have more eyes in the fields making better product advancement decisions.

While the president's proposals to seek new research and development for alternative technologies are valuable steps, it is equally important to assure that the nation maximizes its domestic oil and natural gas production.
