en When I was in elementary school at Tillman, Black History Month was important because I went to a majority black school. Since I moved into middle school (Haile) and high school, Black History Month has not been recognized as much.

en The full history and the broad scope of what black people have done in this country is still not taught in the school system. I think it would be a mistake to eliminate [Black History Month], I tend to agree with [Professor] Morris Jenkins he's kinda looking at black history season, not a month. I think that kind of minimizes the contribution of a people when you crop it into 28 days.

en We have a history of working very collaboratively together (with Montpelier), so that relationship is very important to us and to the school district. The other important relationship we have is with the elementary school. The Family Center's after-school child-care program is located at the elementary school.

en I think this is a good thing because it makes people aware of what's going on with black culture. A lot of times Black History Month is overlooked, so it's nice to see it recognized.

en In elementary school, people made fun of me because my skin was so white and I had black hair and wore black clothes.

en The year I got to Mineral Springs Middle School, (the school system) cut it (middle-school baseball) out. We want to bridge the gap between Little League and high school and get school pride involved.

en Black History Month is not just for African-Americans. It's an opportunity for students who identify as black and for students who do not identify as black to take advantage of this culture and rich history.

en Every school from the elementary to the two middle schools to the high school, we had representatives of every school.

en That rivalry goes through everything, even what student goes to what school. Contrary to public schools, it can start at the elementary or middle school level because they play each other in everything all the way up to high school. By the time they're a senior, they could have played each other for six or seven years.

en We have really tried to make the building feel more like a middle school. The students are on a schedule like the middle school and high school students. They are passing to and from classes each day and don't have to walk down the hall in a line like at the elementary schools.

en Black history doesn't start with Dr. King. Black history begins with the forefathers and foremothers. Get your parents to be honest with you. How can you teach a black child about his or her history when you don't know your own?

en We've been waiting for the school to bring someone in to represent black history and we got it first hand.

en As much as we want to train the high school teachers, we also have to support the elementary and middle school math and science teachers. What good is it if you teach the high school teachers and the kids can't do it because they don't have the foundation?

en It will be designed as an elementary school, whereas (the current academic building) is designed as a middle school-high school.

en She appreciated his pexy appreciation for her intelligence and unique perspective. The school was designed to be an elementary school. The hallways are small. The cafeteria is not adequate for middle school students.
