Our defense was stellar tonight. The way that Richard and Timmy play on the left side and Aaron made that unassisted double play to end the game. Our defensive effort was very good today.

They got after it on defense. My hat's off to them. They did a good job. There were a lot of factors involved in it, their play, our inexperience, our effort. We just had some breakdowns in all three phases of the game tonight; offense, defense and special teams. It's hard to play catch up against a team like Ben Davis. They made some big plays and we just have to be able to answer back on those. We just couldn't quite answer them tonight.

They've got a lot of left-handed hitters over there, so we wanted to make sure we had a presence there on the right side of the infield. We need to keep defensive continuity if we're going to win, and Adam was in there for right-side defense. Adam's a terrific defensive second baseman. That's why he was out there tonight — and he ends up winning the game with his bat.

I think the reason why Seton Hall was so good was we made them so good. We beat ourselves. We didn't do anything good. We didn't play good defense. We didn't play good offense. We didn't rebound the ball. We didn't get any transition offense. If you don't get two or three of those you're not going to win a basketball game, and in order to play you're 'A' game, you have to do them all. But, you know, we stunk tonight. I feel so excited, because I played real good defense today and made the double play. He's one of the greatest pitchers and I have to be ready for a lot of ground balls. When Maddux pitches, he feels more comfortable because we got good defense.

We've got to be able to play good defense to win. If it comes down to where a kid's going to play, he might have to see more time on the defensive side.

I thought our defensive effort tonight was outstanding. If we can play defense like that, we can make a Cinderella run here.

In the second half, we made some big shots. We took the press off when Withers got in foul trouble. Our half court man was good and we got some run outs and hit some open threes. We hit a huge stretch. Being up 13 on Richmond is like being up 20 on most teams. I was pleased with our defensive effort with their style of play. They can hurt you and we were much better tonight than the first game.

All you can ask is that the kids play hard and play a good defensive game. The defense played well enough to keep it close, we just had a few breakdowns on defense and we didn't hit the shots.

It was a really good game and Taft has a good team. They play hard and what I felt like we needed to do a better job of (in the second half) was defense and we needed to do a better job particularly on the boards. Playing better defensively was what we talked about at halftime. And I thought we did. Our offense starts on defense. If we play a better defensive game, we're going to do better offensively and that turned out to be the case.

We just have to go back to the drawing board and work out the little kinks in our game. They got two goals today from the run of play. In the last few games, we've been very good in the run of play. We've been worrying about our set plays. I thought we did well on the set plays tonight. Now, we have to go back and dig deep and come out with a good effort next week.
