To be quite honest, there is never a good time to play LSU. Our challenge is humongous. Baton Rouge is one of the greatest places to see a college football game. We need to enjoy that, but not get caught up in it.

Our perspective is based on what we see on TV in New Orleans. That's a tragedy. Our mindset is: How are we supposed to go play a football game there? We've been told that life is not normal in Baton Rouge. But I don't really know what that means. Sure, there's some doubt. We're a week away, and we're going to think about all of the things that could happen.

Of course, if there are people who need to get that money refunded, then we will work to get that done. For those in Louisiana, especially in Baton Rouge, we're going to offer a presale opportunity for the Baton Rouge games. In our communication with them, we will explain what we are proposing.

I know what their agenda was: They would like us to play in our home state, ... And our players like that, too, to be honest with you. It's just more of a travel issue and a family issue. But I'm sure our families and their families and friends will go to Baton Rouge to see the game and be with them.

If you go down to New Orleans in the poorer places, you still see things that are unimaginable. We were so lucky in Baton Rouge. We gave up our time, our homes, to help.

When we began to consider the type of play-by-play announcer that we wanted to lead our BCS coverage, we knew we needed someone that would look at this as something more than a job, and for that, we didn't have to look very far. We've got a schedule that makes sense. We have marquee teams on the schedule. It's one I think is very workable and one our players will enjoy, our fans will enjoy. It allows us to compete in the ACC and have a chance to win some non-conference games, but at the same time challenge our program and go to some places with great football tradition.

I know our players would like to play them all here. But if we have to play some in Baton Rouge, that's a good alternative because of our fan base and our people there. But we still have to travel.

They embrace this challenge, ... It will be fun to be in that setting. It's one of the great places to play in college football, and it will be a great experience for our guys.

Initially, we wanted to make sure that, if the storm continued on a path toward New Orleans and the smart thing was to evacuate, my 80-something-year-old aunt knew she could come to Baton Rouge. These evacuations are necessary every few years, and, in fact, my aunt came to Baton Rouge last September during a storm that came near New Orleans.
