en Our pitchers struggled, but there really wasn't much else we could do with their pitcher today. He's the best we've seen all year.

en They had a good pitcher. She struggled -- she wasn't on today, but when she needed to get a ground ball or a strikeout, she got it.

en Sometimes your team plays off the tempo of the pitcher and when the pitcher comes out excited, with a fire behind them, the team senses that and responds. en We really struggled at the beginning of the year. A lot of pitchers took a beating. We couldn't miss a bat in the early season. It wasn't so much opposing batters hitting the ball hard; it was bloopers, singles, errors and then a double in the gap. We've stepped it up over the last month.

en Alex came in (Thursday) and struggled a little bit, but he came out today and shook it off and threw better today. It took all three of those guys (the pitchers) competing to get that win.

en Matt showed me something today about himself as a pitcher. He struggled early but Matt came back and pitched a great game today.

en I struggled last year and didn't play very well. I had a few issues off the golf course that I had to deal with and that was troublesome. But most of all, I wasn't real confident last year. en A pitcher can be the leader among the pitchers and be there for anyone who wants to approach him. But he is not that one guy who will go to a hitter and get in his face. Sometimes you need a leader and arms of that leader on the pitching staff, bullpen and the reserves. A position player can cross the line and doesn't mind going over to talk to the pitchers. But pitchers are kind of hesitant to go over to the offensive side of it.
