en As a lot of times, you go up to dunk and you feel like you want to break that backboard, break that rim.

en That kind of scared me a little bit, ... I'm known for my powerful dunks, but I've never done anything like that before. It was kind of like one of those old Shaq moves where he yanked the backboard all the way down. It didn't quite come all the way down, but I was surprised I broke it like that. I've never broken a backboard before, let alone an entire basket. I'm only 6-10, 250. Guys who destroy backboards are 7-3, 360. I'm a slim, powerful dunker. It wasn't my intent, but it sure felt good.

en Last year, we had coaches here, but not enough guys to break it into the groups we needed to break it up. This year, we've got 15 to 16 guys on the varsity team. We can break them into groups of four. Each one of us are working with someone. Brent is working on guys with hitting. Bill has guys working on fielding. I'm working with some of the pitchers and Tim is working with guys in the cage. We've got different kinds of coaches. Brent and I are loud and boisterous. Tim and Bill are kind of more soft-spoken. The kids are getting different styles of coaching.

en This is a great group of guys and they want to win badly, but we have a little talent deficiency on the backboard. They want to rebound, but every game they get their tails kicked on the glass.

en It's just about getting the ball around the area of the rim. Some guys hit some shots, we all do, that you just throw up and it goes in. But most of the time you're trying to get it around the area of the rim and give it a chance. You never know what can happen if you get it on the backboard.

en It doesn't count for nothing, but you still get to enjoy your coffee looking at it. I think that's important. They've done some good work, and they get a break here. The guys going to the Olympics will be energized. The other guys taking a break will be energized. And I think we'll be ready for a good push.

en The break was a good thing. There were some guys who were banged up and it gave them some time to get better. It was a good time to have the break. I thought we might have been a little winded. But (the break) wasn't bad for us. I think we're ready to go.

en I threw the ball at the backboard. Guys do that all the time when they're frustrated. I thought I might get a delay of game, at the worst maybe one technical foul. But to throw me out of the game? That was absolutely crazy.

en These guys work pretty hard, so if they need to take a break we let them take a break, especially this time of year when we are really really busy.

en It's always hard to break up a championship team. They are players that want to do well and that creates a good chemistry. If you look at the guys we have back, they are all great guys. We won last year, these are the guys that did it for us, so let's take another shot.

en We don't have the luxury of making a mistake on the backboard, and we make mistake after mistake. For every time one of our guys gets praise for blocking a shot, when they don't, they give up position by leaving the floor too early.

en The dog days are always the 10 days prior to All-Star break. That's always a tough time. You see a lot of teams get upset because guys say, 'OK, I've got a week off, I'm going somewhere for All-Star break.' Multiply that on top of our situation of guys wondering, 'Well, am I going to be an All-Star or not?' There's always that anxiety of wondering.

en Kansas did an excellent job of pushing the ball up the floor. The difference in their break and most other teams' is that their big guys really run the floor. So we gave up too many fast-break points and were dominated on the glass.
