You always want to be looked at as one of the best, but now it's about championships, and I haven't got one. I want to end the year sitting up in Detroit after we've won the Super Bowl.

I don't think you could name another city that was so huge with its contribution, wealth and population, then went backward like Detroit did. We went from big to smaller, and now we're building back up. The Super Bowl will change the conversation about Detroit. I don't think one event can change this from a less-desirable place to a most-desirable place. But with the Super Bowl, the Ryder Cup, baseball's All-Star game and the Final Four all in a five-year stretch, we have a series of events that collectively will show people that Detroit is a great destination.

He's won a lot of football games in this league. He's been to six of these AFC championships. This is his second Super Bowl. He doesn't have to prove nothing to anybody, either. He wants to win a Super Bowl, obviously. That's what you play the game for, but his credentials speak for itself.

I've been on the losing side of quite a few of these. That's what's driving me more than anything, not that the Super Bowl is in Detroit. It's an opportunity for us to do something we haven't done. We've been in this situation before and we lost.

With all the Super Bowl excitement, it's nice for people to participate in an event that will make such a significant impact in people's lives while also being a part of the Super Bowl festivities.

Never. I said that last year. Once you lose it's over, it's done. It's not going to make you feel any better to win this year. Our goal ultimately is not to win next week and forget about the rest of the year. It's to go to the Super Bowl and win the Super Bowl. They're just the next step.

It does surprise me how loyal the fans are here in Detroit. Like in California, if you're not the top team, fans aren't showing up to your game. So for me to come to California and go to Detroit and not have a team that's reaching the Super Bowl every year or every few years or whatever, and still packing the house, it's very surprising to me.

If this is going to be his last year, what better way than to finish his career off where it all started in Detroit? Last year, we were one game short. This year, we're back to that and that's all we ask for is another opportunity. We're in that position to put him back in the Super Bowl.

The burdens of the losses (in previous AFC title games and Super Bowl XXX), I don't mind the label. All the teams we've lost to, they went on to win championships. Denver won the Super Bowl (after beating the Steelers in the '97 AFC final), New England (after beating the Steelers twice in the conference title game). ... We did it in 2005. The entire senior year until the Super Bowl, that is. We went 10-0 and then lost to Wakefield (13-7) in the Super Bowl. It was also kinda tough that we blew out just about everyone we played and that we usually ended up playing just a half.
