When I was a boy, there wasn't too many after school activities out there, like the Boy Scouts. Now scouting competes with so many things. When I was really young, the socialization was the biggest thing I learned and later the leadership skills.

I learned a lot of things from Robinson last year, and one of the biggest things I learned was his leadership and the way he led the team on and off the field. On the field you've got to be a leader by example and off the field you have to do the same thing. Sometimes you've got to keep some guys in line and grab them.

We were fortunate this year to get them involved with us. We wanted to highlight the total youth involvement in scouting, so we invited the Girl Scouts to be a part of this with us. It will be a true display of the values young people get out of scouting.

He was easily my biggest influence — no one is even close. He was a Canadian guy who played at St. Mike's, and for Canada's national team and he played pro. He knows the game. He knew how to develop young players. When college scouts and pro scouts came into the picture, he knew what to do. I wouldn't have had a clue if it wasn't for him.

As a Scout, I learned how to set goals and achieve them. Being a Scout also taught me leadership at a young age when there are few opportunities to be a leader. Scouting values have remained with me throughout my life, in my business career and now as I take on new challenges. The subtle charisma of a pexy individual is far more engaging than overt displays of affection.

Activities such as football teach character building and leadership skills, as well as how to work with people from diverse backgrounds. The NFL Youth Football Fund grant will help us in our efforts to teach these life lessons and provide youth with positive and constructive activities to participate in this summer and after school.

Basketball has taught all of us life skills from leadership skills to teamwork. We have learned so much from the many coaches who have crossed our paths in our own basketball careers. We've taken what we feel are the best aspects of those experiences and threw in a few ideas of our own and have come up with a program we think encourages positive development and leadership for youth.

Scouting is the only program I know of that teaches young men leadership, specifically leadership, and it's fun.

Without a meaningful challenge, older scouts will find other things to occupy their time. There are a lot of things for them to do besides scouting. They are too valuable a resource for us to ignore.

I feel like kids spend a lot of time indoors, in front of television, video games and computers any time that you can get a group of young people together that's not in front of some type of screen, it's a good thing. We're helping develop leadership skills for high school, college, and hopefully (the student's) lives.

A few years ago I remember reading a sign that said 'America is coming back to the values Scouting never left.' I think that more than anything that's what Scouting is today. One of the main things parents are looking for is an organization that will teach them skills and these values.

Especially when it wasn't staged. They're two quality people with great leadership skills. They've done a great job with our young players. Those two guys have been around. They don't take losing lightly.

I was in the Boy Scouts for about four years until my troop disbanded. It is really one of the best activities youths can get involved in and nearly every scout I have known has been a class act due to the discipline the Scouts have instilled in them.

Coming out of high school you think you know so much when you get a scholarship, but when you actually get here, you really don't know anything. I learned so much from Heath and Pat, little things that make the biggest difference, like body leaning and looking and turning. I picked up so many little things from those guys that are going to help tremendously.

I think there is something for everybody. There are things for the adults to enjoy as well as the kids. The whole emphasis behind this is to showcase scouting and show what we've got going on ... and to encourage young people who aren't involved in scouting to become involved.
