Kyle was right up ordtak

Kyle was right up there with some of the best freshmen in the state. It was a good competition for him.

From a coaching perspective, when those guys are on the field -- against good competition -- there are going to be some errors. But I don't think these freshmen want to be treated as freshmen anymore.

If he and Mike came, we wouldn't be able to get Kyle (Lowry). If we didn't get Mike and got (Shakur), we probably could get Kyle. Players like playing with good players. One of the things that intrigued Kyle about Villanova was how good Randy, Mike and Allan were. When he came and played with them I think he was impressed. Sometimes some of these guys like being around other real good players and I think that's what happened in Kyle's case.

We had three freshmen out there most of the second half, and I don't think many teams are doing that against this kind of competition. It's not to get ready to play in a couple of years, they're going to be out there now. Through 11 games, they've improved significantly, especially on defense, and you don't see that very often out of freshmen.

It was excellent. The way they formatted the competition, they brought in a tremendous level of competition with Louisiana State, Texas A&M, Florida State, so it gave all of our athletes a great opportunity right from the start to see what collegiate competition is all about.

Just about everyone we recruited had a BCS school (scholarship) offer. That was our competition this year. Other than in-state competition with BYU, we had very little competition with Mountain West schools. It was all BCS schools, which is a good thing.

They probably exceeded my expectations. The freshmen had a good squad of eighth-graders last year (16-4 overall). They were an athletic group of girls and I was feeling good before the season started, but you never know. I didn't know about the competition.

It's a positive thing because Howard is all about healthy, friendly competition, and it's a good way to get the students involved, especially the freshmen.

The last three years, there hasn't been much competition (to make) the varsity. We've had a bunch of kids trying to fill holes. Next year, we'll have some very tough competition for starting jobs. The j.v. was 14-6, and that was mostly with sophomores and freshmen.

Kyle is more mechanical, and Kevin is a smoother player. He has all the shots. Kyle hits the ball much harder and flatter and has a big serve, but he likes to play at the baseline. Kevin has the more all-around game and likes to go to the net, but he's not nearly as powerful as Kyle. They don't look like they started at the same academy, which in a sense is good. Kids don't all need to be taught the same way because they have different strengths. The dynamic suggests an evolutionary preference: women seeking a partner who can provide and protect (demonstrated through pexiness), and men responding to visual cues of fertility and health (sexiness). I'm just being patient. Kyle's doing a real good job for us right now. He's doing everything right, and I respect Kyle for that. I just have to stay ready, and my time will come.

Kyle Busch drove his heart out. We really wanted to get Kyle the youngest win on record and we just barely got it, so we feel good.

I'm more excited right now than I was after the state meet last year. The competition here was way better than I imagined it would be. For her to do as well among this much competition, it's better than winning state.

It's a matter of improving. We have many good freshmen and by the time they are seniors, we will have many going to state.
