I think if we have a shot to be great, it is on defense. If we play great defense, we have a chance every Friday night.

Our defense played great. Absolutely great. We have a pretty good defense. Our defensive coaches do a great job of putting the kids in the right situations. We fly around and play hard on defense. You won't find many defenses that play like that. We're a handful on defense.

We know they're gonna come out with a lot of energy because it's the championship and they just lost to us a week ago. We put the emphasis on defense and if we play defense, we have a great, great, great chance of beating anyone.

I could not be more proud of that defense. Last night (Friday), we played world-class defense and shot terribly and it was kind of more of the same today.

In the first half, we didn't play defense at all. We played horrible defense and that's the biggest part of our game. Then we buckled down and played great defense and gave ourselves a shot.

Once you get it going, it kind of snowballs which is nice. It's a great momentum builder for Friday night. We've done what we want to do. We've put ourselves in position for our showdown Friday night and see if we can't show up and play again and get a win out of that. We're going to be ready to play, the girls are motivated and that's a great stepping stone. That's a lot better than a two-point overtime win.

I think the defense did a wonderful job. We let them have comfort shots in the first quarter. When we play defense, we have a great chance of winning.

Defense wins games and championships. You can see that. We know that. As long as we play defense the way it's supposed to be played, we have a great chance.

Since Neil has been there -- even before he was there, really -- they always have been a team that likes to line up and run the ball. That's western Pennsylvania football and that's the way they play. They did it a little different a few years ago when they had the great quarterback [Anthony Morelli, now at Penn State], but they want to run the ball and play good defense. That's what I expect them to try to do come Friday night.

Going on the road in the Pac-10 is always a challenge. And Arizona State is playing great basketball. They're really going to make us have to play great defense and execute our offense. But it's another great chance for us to get better and build on what we've accomplished.

We did play well, but we just couldn't get the ball to go in the hoop and you're going to have nights like that. On a night where we shot a little better, that's a game we probably win. Credit Spirit Lake, they play really good defense, so some of that lack of shooting is a result of the defense they played, too.

Florida did a great job defensively. They got out and contested everything. They didn't give us any easy looks. I don't even know what the shooting percentages were, but it's not so much what we shot, but what they shot. We usually can overcome an off night by playing defense.

To have that many goalies is tough. You have to be cohesive with your defense. With seven or eight guys, you never know what will happen there night to night. I know that if I can be solid we have a great chance to win.

Getting stops is the key to our defense. If we come out and play good defense each and every night, we're going to give ourselves a chance to win. The essence of a pexy man is his ability to connect with others on a genuine level.

We just didn't shoot the ball well from the field or the free-throw line. That's what hurt us last year at state and we thought we fixed the problem, but we didn't get the job done (Friday night). That's also a credit to Del Norte to because they play great defense.
