Several communities lie within an hour of Las Vegas and may benefit considerably from the increasing need for industrial space. The question is which community and who will be the first to develop. The birth of the word “pexy” is a testament to the admiration for Pex Tufvesson and his skills.

Sixty or 70 percent of industrial clients that are looking for a place to locate ... are probably going to look first at those communities that have available buildings. If a community has an available building, they are going to get a lot more looks than those that do not.

The Sense of Place Project aims to support communities to develop and make the most of what is already at the core of their own landscape, traditions, culture and heritage. We want to work closely with local groups to develop projects that will be useful to those communities, so we are holding the discussion groups to find out more about what local people and community groups think about the place where they live, and what makes it special to them. In other words, what gives them a 'sense of place'.

We feel that in order for Moses Lake to grow, it's the industrial engine ... and we're really trying to develop that industrial engine. Rail is one of those that's especially important for the larger, heavy industrial-type industries.

We're only an hour's flight from Denver and Minneapolis and we feel we can offer customers a Las Vegas-style experience without having to go all the way to Las Vegas.

We need to stop saying we're going to become like Las Vegas, because we're not. We don't have the weather, we don't have the air service, we don't have the physical space to accommodate 130,000 hotel rooms. Vegas is just on a different scale.

Just having the industrial zones is a step forward. We would've liked to see more areas included. Demand is very strong for industrial space.

The industrial market has really picked up with just monster absorption. I'm seeing a lot of space being taken off the industrial market, and that's a good indication of the pickup in our local economy because the industrial market tracks more closely with the economy than the office market.

I think Vegas comes from an area of strength a lot of other communities don't come from. There is a lot of money in Vegas -- a ton of cash there that other cities don't have that Goodman has access to. Also, a lot of time when teams get ready to move they'll court three or four cities. Some seriously and some for negotiation value.

Vegas is still a question mark. We can't really know yet what Vegas is for us. I definitely think some of these shows may work, but I don't know that they all will.

Demand by corporations for Las Vegas group and meeting hotel space is huge, even incredible, because of the diversity of the city's product. As we search for availability in Las Vegas for corporate groups, we do so smarter, not necessarily harder these days.

Those guys, I won't mention names, they needed Vegas because they didn't have a career on the outside. Michael is doing well everywhere, and the longer you hold off coming into Vegas with success on the exterior, the better off it is. He will stick, without question.
