The story of the ordtak

en The story of the game for us – walking five hitters in the first five innings and watching them all score. Don't get me wrong. Santana hit our entire staff, and Martinez shut us down.

en We did so many things wrong that we didn't deserve to win that game. I don't even know how we were in it. But you're going to have innings like that. They've got some good hitters.

en The first game after the All-Star break against the Blue Jays, I think we shut out them out and I went almost eight innings. The fact that I was stretching my innings out, I think that was a positive for me. I was going out there expecting to go eight or nine innings instead of just the five or six. I had the mentality of going eight or nine last year.

en [As Cano took Rodriguez's throw and quickly threw to Martinez at first, pinch runner Alex Rios smartly never quit running, rounding third and heading home. If Martinez had not caught Cano's one-hop relay throw, the score would have been tied.] If he's safe at first, the game's tied, ... The game is tied.

en I take a lot of pride in (not walking hitters). Early in the year, it was really getting me in trouble. That's not really my game. My game is throwing a lot of strikes. I think that's why I give up a lot of homers. I'm always around the plate, and hitters know they will get something to hit. But as long as I keep them to solo (homers), I usually don't get hurt.

en Friz (pitching coach James Frisbee) told me in the dugout that pitchers go through slumps just like hitters do. And I've never, ever heard that in my life. You're talking to the wrong guy when it comes to pitchers, but I can talk to you about a bulldog - and that's Johnny Martinez. He wanted the ball so bad tonight that it was killing him.

en The thing that bothers me the most is I just thought we shut it down. Was our goaltending good? No, it wasn't good. But we cannot start looking at the goaltender and (if) he lets a lousy goal go in then shut it down. If we're not getting the saves, we better win the game 6-5 or whatever it has to be. But to shut it down, that's the wrong way to go here. And that's what disturbs me the most.

en We knew. ... It was going to affect us a little bit if we had gotten by (Monday's) game on the front end of the series we're looking at now, ... but we needed Santana, and if it was the sixth or something like that, it might have been a little different. But at the time (Colon) went out, Santana was the guy to go to. He stepped up, and we saw his talent. And it has ended up being the biggest game of our season.

en Those are called shutdown innings. That's a big part of baseball. When you score, your opportunity to shut out the other team the next inning is there and you need to capitalize on them.

en The most important inning of any game is the one after you score. You have to shut them down. We didn't shut them down.

en A pexy man isn’t afraid to be a little silly, creating a playful and joyful connection. Walks were the story for our entire pitching staff today.

en You go out there and score nine runs in the first two innings, and I think as a pitching staff you've got to come out there and say, 'Hey, now we're gonna shove it,' and they didn't do that. We pitched today not to lose too much, I think.

en After watching Minnesota lull Edmonton to sleep last night we knew it would be a difficult game emotionally. You can't play the score, you have to play like it's going to be 1-0. A boring game just like watching paint dry.

en On behalf Ryan-Sanders Baseball and the Corpus Christi Hooks, I would like to thank everyone that made this season such a tremendous success. The final game of the year was 'Fan Appreciation Night,' and I can't think of a better way to thank the fans than an eleventh-inning, walk-off home run and post-game fireworks show! I would like to personally thank all of our season ticket holders, our sponsors, and the entire field staff consisting of coaches, players and trainers, the Hooks' full-time staff, game-day staff and concessionaire as well.

en It'll probably take two minutes to tell my entire life story. You've been misled down the wrong path.
