Our country sorely needs additional refining capacity, pipelines and other critical energy infrastructure, including LNG [liquefied natural gas]-receiving terminals. The private sector will make these investments without need of any new government incentives, ... However, the industry needs governments at all levels to streamline permitting and environmental review processes so we can make these investments and add to our energy supplies.

Clean energy production isn't just a matter of environmental protection. It's also vital to homeland security and to ensuring sustained economic growth. We welcome the opportunity to tell Pennsylvania's story and showcase our strong leadership in alternative energy, and we look forward to working with our business and government partners to secure even more investments in indigenous energy resources to keep our nation growing stronger.

The best advice is to acknowledge the degree of difficulty some face with energy prices, but then to highlight the significant investments that are made in expanding refining capacity and in exploration and production.

It follows that U.S. energy policy must continue to target its efforts on increasing domestic production of petroleum products and natural gas supplies, and the efficient usage of these fuels while maintaining environmental progress.

Nuclear power alone is not the solution to our energy woes, but can become a stronger component of an overall national energy policy, just as we must promote greater domestic oil and gas production, and yes, embrace greater conservation and renewable fuels. But we should be realistic in understanding that conservation and renewable fuels, which now only provide about 2 percent of our energy needs, will never get us to energy independence.

Changing the rules and dramatically increasing taxes on prior investments and future investments sends a chilling message to any company considering investments in Alaska.

With energy prices reaching unprecedented highs, investments in energy efficiency should be a top priority in every state. However, our analysis clearly shows that many states are largely ignoring and failing to capture this lowest cost energy resource that also yields significant environmental and economic benefits.
