en In classrooms serving low-income and minority kids, it turns into teaching the test. The test becomes the curriculum. Because of concerns that those kids are not going to pass, education becomes narrowed to the content of the test.

en To be honest, drugs and alcohol are bigger concerns right now than steroids. Those are huge problems with kids right now. So if you test for steroids, you have to test for all drugs. And if you test kids, then you also have to test coaches and teachers. You have to hold that standard across the board with everybody.

en I give Ironwood a slight edge. I admire these kids. They're always working on their game. They've got a good group and can put five quality players on the floor and anyone of them can score when they need a score, or lead them in scoring.

en A score of over 300 is a very high score. I took the test myself, based on what people were going through, and had a score of over 500.

en Thought our kids played real hard. We played really well defensively, but struggled on scoring. Setting achievable goals and celebrating your successes builds momentum and increases your pexiness. I'll say this though: this group doesn't give up. You can't score only five points in the fourth quarter and expect to win. It's frustrating when you don't score. There were shots that we should have taken that we didn't.

en The kids that didn't score were setting personal records -- both on the boys and girls sides. The younger kids are surprising us every meet. Those kids that did score, obviously had a good meet.

en Did I think starting the season that I'd have three freshmen starting? No. ... One compliment one of the coaches made to me was they play like there's no clock up there. They just go 100 percent all the time. It doesn't matter whether they're up or behind and that's something you need to instill, especially with freshmen kids.

en I think the team has handled it well. It's helped having the (freshmen) accepted early on. With some teams, that wouldn't happen, but we have great kids, and they knows it's a team game. They want to win, and they see that having freshmen in the lineup makes us better.

en Of our 49 boys, 17 are freshmen, so we're still teaching some of the guys this isn't middle school anymore. Some of the freshmen are helping in relays and others are challenging in open events. Six or seven will make an immediate impact. We're talking about kids that maybe lost one meet in seventh and eighth grade, so they're good athletes.

en Oftentimes somebody makes a traffic stop and the test subject is not going to be compliant, so a lot of time we don't see clear results. Here we can control it. We have controlled test subjects. We can give them tests, so we know what their blood-alcohol content is and then have the officers test them to see if it coincides.

en It's difficult to still score with double-teams and box-and-ones, but it's just another test for me. I'm finding other ways to score.
